Kinda cool. Does it really produce that HP though??

philodox 01-10-2005 12:13 AM

looks pretty cool.. probably only good as an engine dress up peice though.. not sure how functional it would be...

LiL BenNy 01-10-2005 01:19 AM

yea figured it is prally more cosmetic but hes not like creates 10 hp bs so maybe its legit? idk much about engines and all the technology but a guess?

cgrx 01-10-2005 01:25 AM

It probably frees up some HP, but I doubt 10

RXE16T 01-10-2005 01:52 AM

Looks good, but is it style over function?

He's only claiming 2-3hp....that'd be right for a 10% underdrive pulley. Looks trick, I reckon.

canaryrx8 01-10-2005 01:11 PM

pretty sweet, not real anxious to play with my belts though.

MyRxBad 01-10-2005 01:45 PM

Looks very similar to the one's that Higgi produced for the Rx-7. I'll post a pic of my old Rx-7's engine bay if anyone if curious as to how it looks on the engine.

LiL BenNy 01-10-2005 04:08 PM

no you read it wrong i didnt say it claimed 10hp... i said its NOT like he claimed 10hp bs everyone tries and pulls... he actually states 2-3hp...so thats more realistic

jenkins-crew 01-11-2005 10:36 PM

Would it be much lighter????????

LiL BenNy 01-11-2005 11:12 PM

hey even if the dont work... there always still cute! ;) :p

ScudRunner 01-11-2005 11:16 PM

too bad i just can't afford to underdrive my alternator

MyRxBad 01-12-2005 11:02 AM

It was lighter on the Rx-7. I don't know how much the one weighs on the Rx-8, so I can't comment.

Damn, I miss my first gen Rx-7. :(

Rennwagen 01-13-2005 07:42 PM

I don't really want to underdrive the alternator on a car that was a piss poor battery as it is.

Looks damn cool, though.

OK, I went ahead and bought it. My wife's limited me to the occasional $50 purchase for the car.... until we get the insurance check for her car. Then I'm allowed to go crazy.

Just looking at it, it's very nicely machined. Fits in the palm of my hand. I'll do a size/weight comparison this weekend. He's in Florida, so it was a really quick turn around. Not sure if I'm going to install, I'm still toying with the idea of using it as a paper weight at work. LOL

On a side note, he did send a few kitkat mini's with it. Guess he wanted to sweeten the deal... sorry, couldn't resist.

rotary shaped alternator pulley

weight: 107 grams -OR- 3.75 ounces
diameter: 2.5 (ish) inches

I say 2.5(ish) because I'm measuing out to the lip, not the surface where the belt would be making contact with the pulley. I'll guestimate that the contact surface diameter is 2 3/8.

**Edit***
Just ran outside the width of the OEM alternator pulley is right around 2.25 inches, lip to lip. Subtract the width of the belt (times 2) and that's the diameter of the contact surface.

So the rotary pulley is slightly larger. Hrmm, what effect would this have? Also, anyone know the weight of the stock alternator pulley? cortc?
