No doubt that is true. Those same people don't treat the rotary as it should be treated, and then it gets it's bad rap. If everyone had the knowledge to care and maintain this engine in a different manor, we'd be getting a lot more then 100k miles every time. The neglecting, uneducated people who think this is a toyota corolla engine, and treat it like one, are the ones who pay the price, but then act like it's the engine's fault. No doubt it requires more TLC, but with that TLC it can last. Without it, the general public will keep on giving this enginethis mostly undeserved bad rap. Just my .02. :)

I think rotaries can last longer- there are far fewer parts to fail. I've seen many NA 2nd gen RX7's that have gone to 200k miles with no problem, and they were driven very hard. It goes back to the basics of keeping the oil fresh and the engine cool... and a stock RX8 should last as long or longer than the NA FC's.

thanks for all the info. Proud owner of a '04 RX-8, w/ 238 hp 6 spd man and Grand touring package.
Just picking up some more tips... if driven hard, long trips, or in hot weather, I guess it's recommended to cool down the engine before shutting off... What's everyone's opinion, let idle for a few minutes and/or rev up to 3,000 rpms for a few seconds and then shut off?? Anyone's expert opinion???

I really hope the Renesis will be good to me!

lol, you obviously dont konw much about rotaries do you?

pretty much any FC you obtain that still carries its original engine SHOULD have a rebuild when you get it into your possesion, as you never know the history of the engine life and how it was treated. not just that by the time you get a FC now the engine will be near the end of its life so most likely he had the car he had the original engine for not so long or he just rebuilt right away(both are which the most common cases with FC owners)

Also, that much mileage on a TII is INSANE, i would not expect more than 125 on a TII or a 13b-REW(FD engine)

1981 Rx-7

I had one of the first RX-7s, a 1981 and drove it for 202,000 (over ten years) before the Apex seal let go. She had done yeoman's duty by that time so she was retired.
