ahhhhh, yeah. great download for anyone who isn't intimately familiar with the RENESIS yet, or rotary engines in general... also, KILLER sourse of info for RX-7 owners curious about what Mazda kept from us North Americans with the late-model 13-BREWs pumpin' out significantly higher hp numbers (like, 280 factory... on paper the "highest" hp in Japan, although everyone knows it's the GT-R by like 100hp...)
it's really neat to see that they just beefed up the cooling, and probably some of the other bits that the turbo system was really hard on (vacuum lines, etc), then ran more boost :D

That is mean, almost as mean as the 787B. What series did that run in? LeMans? I was under the impression that rotaries were banned after 1991.

They did not banned them, the officials impossed more restrictions in each season just to choke the poor rotary engine. i.e. Intake restrictor was so choked down, that the air entering the restrictor was almost rushing at the speed of sound in the rotary engine.

Thus Mazda said they proved a point about the Rotary engine, & just left the series. Rotary in the history of racing have won more than 70% of all races combined. They are great racing engines, but they are not very good to power cosmetics (A/C, powersteering, weight, etc.) since they don't produce as much torque. But, I'm sure if they made 3-rotor RENESIS, it would be a different story. And, I give great props for the Mazda 2-rotor RENESIS as they can achieve great innnovations out of the 13B design.

I actually saw the '92 car on TV racing back in '92. Poor thing was one of the loudest on the track, if not the loudest, but couldn't keep up. Or was it in '93 or '94? Anyway, it was hard to watch the car struggle like that. :(

I think the Renesis is going to change all that.
