RHD Conversion.
So, sometime soon or next summer I'll be pulling the engine, adding a super charger, a lightened rotor assembly, and a port and polish. Since thats already going to be out I was going to rip out the insides so I could paint the entire body.
My question is, how hard would it be to do a RHD conversion while everything is already out? |
I think it'd be pricey, however there are a lot of wrote off rx8s in the UK now so you might be able to scavenge a lot of the bits from one of those :) uncertain on shipping costs, but I think that'd be the only way to know you've got every part and be able to replicate a rhd
How come you are thinking of doing this? :) |
Just for fun. I already am making a JDM track monster. I thought I might as well do that while it'd be the easiest time.
|
ah cool! :)
probably best to get a front half cut from japan, oz, nz or the uk then to get all the bits! be able to get one cheap I'd imagine |

I don't play too many games anymore. I used to play a lot of GT3 though.
I just want a special RX-8 and I'm just trying to make it the way I want. |
I think you will run into many issues trying to do this--won't that affect the supercharger placement? don't know if that's even possible.....ugh my brain hurts. you must be made of money if your considering doing this. Already you got thousands into the mods you got right now.

A right hand drive conversion for the 8 is pretty hard to pull off. We did one a while back and we ran into all sorts of problems especially with the airbag issues... other than that, the wiring and drilling out the spot welds consumed the most time for the project.

my guess is..
20b > rhd > trans swap. but 20b and rhd not to far apart.. would it not just be easier to bring in a car from england? beers  |
Registering a non-USDM car is the issue... I don't know about the laws in Oregon but over here in California, it's a no-no... that's why we do RHD conversions here in CA and register it as a kit car. :)

so,
ecu, front clip, pedel ass, wireing harness. all right to left ass, would love to know the final price in that? btw, send me a pm about your led fogs. love the idea! beers  |
I don't have to worry about air bags, The seat are going to be replaced in a couple weeks with Bride GIAS'. My wheel is already replaced by a Nardi. The passenger airbag area is going to house multiple controllers for the gauges, suspension, etc.
I shouldn't need to change the ecu, right? |

when doing a RHD conversion you must also start driving on the left side of the road while holding your cell phone with your hand.
