Replace switchblade key blank
I've split apart the FOB and the other have of the key, but I can't figure out how to disassemble it further so I can take out the actual key and replace it with an uncut one.
My dealer messed up on cutting it so I had to buy some key blanks. The manual only shows how to replace the battery which is in the FOB half of the entire key. |
I came up with this same problem, I haven't changed the blade of my FOB but a friend who's a machinist suggested I use a press-punch to remove the pin that holds the blade. If you open the blade and rotate it half way before it clicks to lock, you will see a pin close to the fulcrum of the switch-blade, also you will see where the blade and the base seperates. That pin is what's needed to be pushed out(similar to removing the link on a wrist watches).

Yeah I've tried pushing that out with whatever object I had laying around and I couldn't get it out.
|
If the dealership messed it up, shouldn't they fix it?
|
Technically they didn't mess it up, it was just some inexperienced serviceman that cut the key. It's fine since the key blanks were only a couple bucks each.
|
Where did you buy the blank blades, I thought the dealer would have to replace your key if they messed it up?
|
I purchased the blank blades from a vender on ebay. My dealer would never replace a couple hundred dollar key just because they couldn't cut the 05 key to match my 04 key.
|
There's another thread and a few in that discussion purchased the pre-cut key with the unprogrammed transmitter for $90 from the dealer.

I bought two from nyc-auto-parts-347-276-3884
I don't know the exact price my dealer gave me, but a pre-cut key from them would be about $150 plus their $95 programming fee which I would never do. |
Dealership = Expensive

^ no need to emphasize, it's best you keep that to yourself (or refrain from commenting), doesn't help 'stars25'.
