Repair Shop / Vendor Dispute

Hey guys. Had my clutch die back in January, and I went for the ACT "street duty" upgrade for like $40 more than OEM, free rush shipping from BHR. Had a highly recommended local shop install it, and it bit hard and felt great.

Pulling into a parking lot last week, after about 6 weeks of use, it suddenly got very hard to shift gears, then when I started the car after parking, it wouldn't shift at all. Had a buddy push it to a speed I could rev-match it into first and limped it back to the same shop.

Shop pulls the clutch, says its been slipping since install, and stopped releasing because it is defective. So I send ACT pictures of it, they say theyve seen way worse still be functional and to find out if the adjustment at the pedal clevis to the master cylinder was performed. Call the shop, they say it wasn't, but it couldn't possibly be the install that caused it to fail because they've been doing clutches 40 years, etc.

So, if the throw pedal adjustment isn't made, can that actually cause the clutch to slip? Or does that only affect ergonomics? Please let me know.

I have seen clutches wear out in a month if the free play wasn't adjusted properly

Yep, there is much more to installing a clutch assembly than just slapping it on. Adjusting the pedal and such is something a lot of "professionals" just don't take the time to do.

what 9k saids

for every clutch job, the pedal/free play has to be re-adjust.
