Renesis price range

Ok, I will be ripping the heart out of my RX8 soon. 2005 AT with about 75kmiles on it. 4 owners. Just curious how much the engines and trans go for. It runs and shifts fine. It does have low compression but I have no clue what the numbers are because the dealership i took it to get tested didn't give me any and after them wanting $8k for a new engine I just walked away. How much can i get for it at most and if i just want a quick sale? Thanks.

$500 tops.

jon15805 02-18-2015 04:51 PM

Sounds good. I will probably send it RR's way then. Thanks.

Your best bet is probably to sell it to a rebuilder, there are several on this site. Some parts could be good enough to reuse. Beyond that, I don't really see any reasonable person buying a low compression Renesis.

Me neither. Just wanted to know what other people thought. I have already spoken to Kevin and he said he would take the motor, just not the trans.

Newbie here

I cant start a new thread yet, so I hope I dont upset the balance here. But I am a new RX8 owner. First one, have been mostly German car owner, but have always loved the looks of the RX. So I have a few questions. I have no plans of modifying my car, love it the way it is. I have just bought a 2006 with only 30k miles on it, and I talked Mazda dealership to charge half for a 4 year warranty on the car that was only 900.00 for the engine/trans. So far in my first week, I love the car. Amazing that a 1.3 liter engine can put out that much power and the handling is great.

But. my question is this, I hear that you must check the oil in these cars every 700-1000 miles and top them off. Its just something the engine does. Is that about accurate or should it be sooner?

And I see a lot about gas mileage, thats not an issue, I just came from a BMW 5 series, you buy a sports car, dont expect 30 mpg.

Any advice for me is greatly appreciated. Thanks and I look forward to maybe meeting some owners here in Atlanta.

Cheers

Oil should be checked if not every fill up, every other fill up. For most thats about every 200-400 miles. The motor burns oil by design and running the engine low on oil is a major no-no. MPG is determined by many factors, I have seen anywhere from 15-25 MPG. Just dont make it a major issue and drive the car, have fun with it. Welcome to the club!

Thanks for the info, greatly appreciated. I have a full 30 day warranty, they are replacing the front rotors and pads, the driver side rotor has an issue, they (mazda) were a bit reluctant, but I got that in the deal. I appreciate the info, I just want to have fun with this car and keep it for a very long time. For now its my everyday car, I will end up buying something else to keep the miles down on this one, I will say that it gets some looks. I dont care about the MPGs, some folks I see on this site thats about the only complaint about the car, but after driving a BMW 540i, I am lucky if I get 20mpgs the way I drive. I am looking forward to meeting other folks with these cars. I have seen some pics of some really nice modified RX8s.

I need an engine

I just bought an rx8, 2004 6 speed. I bought the car for 4300, as is. I got ripped off pretty good because I need a cat, rear control arms and I just found out my engine is shot. putting out 10lbs of compression. I need an engine and don't have a lot of money left to spend. Any ideas or deals please let me know.

BigCajun 03-07-2015 07:01 PM

If you know for sure the cat is bad, gut it.
I don't know what 10 lbs. of compression means, a proper rotary compression test is 2 sets of 3 numbers for each rotor face.
Get a rotary specific compression test from a dealer and then you will have a better idea of where you stand.
