removing the throttle body??
yes i searched..and no i didnt find anything.......
my 8 is experiencing many of the same symptoms as countless others ive read about have experienced hesitation at take off no "get up and go" rough idle these are the things i found to try and fix it replace ignition coils spark plugs plug wires clogged cat? malfunctioning/dirty throttle body so today i did the check on the throttle body..aka i removed the air duct leading to it and opened the valve w my hand..apparently it was supposed to shut quickly with a spring loaded like action...mine kinda slowly shut. (not real slow but not quick either) basically i was hoping to find advice/tips on the removal of this expensive and apparently well designed part https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...+throttle+body |
It's supposed to roll shut slowly. Perhaps start with cleaning the MAF sensor if you haven't already.
Remove the TB by removing the 4 10MM bolts that surround it. You don't even need to remove the heater hoses that are attached if you're simply gonna try cleaning it. Maybe start by making sure your air filter is clean, too. |
yes i have already cleaned the MAF sensor and i just cleaned the filter...it actually made some improvement
some more symptoms i forgot to mention are blinking check engine light, sometimes it will quit after i decelerate or come to a stop... i think im gonna go ahead and clean and lubricate(??) the TB..im thinking of using the same stuff i used to clean the MAF..electric parts cleaner and would it show me if my cat is restricting flow too much if i remove the cat pipe and start the engine??? |
What you should do is see if there is a stored code for the blinking MIL.
How does one lube the TB? |
ha ha not sure thats what the question marks were for..
o and i went to autozone for their free check engine light help...they found 2 codes..one MAF sensor code and one massive random misfire code...? |
flashing cel is missfire..
did you replace plugs, coils, wires? that is the place to start.. and first i would check to make sure plugs are tight, and wires are secure.. both just take time, no money. beers  |
uhh.. is the MAF sensor plug connected all the way? +1 on the making sure it's tight.
|
i just changed the spark plugs a few days ago...i will go back over and check to make sure everything is connected properly...but this problem was already present before i changed the plugs
i was already thinking on new plug wires..the Nology HotWire spark plug wires... my coils have never been replaced....... would the oxygen sensor have anything to do with this?? |
be sure you put the leasding plugs and secondary plugs where they are to be. it is easy to forget which ones go where if you don't look first.(imo)or you take them all out at one time.(just a guess)
|
by the way there are four bolts that hold the t.b. on it's pretty easy to do if ya got the right tools universal 1/4 inch 10mm wth an six to eight inch ext. takes about six minutes to remove.take it slow so you won't need to replace the gasket or just get one from the dealer for about six bucks.hope that helps you out.

ok so i cleaned the TB..it turned a white shop towel black...
and also i took off the cat pipe and as i pulled it out from under the car i heard stuff rolling around inside....so i grab a bucket and dumped a good amount of the honeycomb out and dust...after reinstalling it i noticed huge difference meaning it was running right finally (which still isnt all the way fixed because i have a turbo..and its not producing any boost...gauge reads 1 lb.) :banghead: |
whoa i just thought of something...is it possible that since the cat was clogged that the turbo is somehow affected?
|
Yes, clogged CAT produces a noticeable loss in power.

that is the problem.. the turbo cannot accelerate with out exhaust gas flowing free. beers  |
yes but i mean any lasting affects..because i cleared out all the loose stuff and its still not producing boost
