Auto shop recommendations in Santa Clarita, CA (Valencia)
Hi,
So, I just got my RX-8. 2 days and loving it.
I was reading the links in the forum to perform the basic stuff; like changing coils, wires, spark plugs, etc. But I'd still need to take it to a shop for oil changes, tune ups, etc. Is there a good shop you recommend in Santa Clarita, CA? Or should I just take it to the Mazda dealer? I kinda think the dealers are a rip-off, though.
I work in West LA, so, even something in the San Fernando Valley or West LA areas could work.
Thanks!

most of that you can (and maybe should) do yourself
there's a rotary shop in west LA, on overland, near venice. i've passed by it many times and seen many old rx-7's there, altho i've never been myself. there used to be a guy in the santa clarita pep boys who used to work for tripoint; he claimed/sounded like he was good but i have no experience. personally, my favorite rotary shops in LA are mazdatrix and sidepex; both are really good for older rotaries, tho mazdatrix probably deals w/ rx-8's nowadays. i've heard bad things about both galpin and assael, 2 mazda dealers that're reasonably close to you. choose your dealer carefully. a lot of the routine maintenance are easy or can be easily learned

Having had my 8 for nearly half a year now and lurking on the forum, ive been hesitant to post. However, after researching TSB, recalls, and warranty issues with my car and knowing Vanessa personally at Galpin Mazda ( SCV ) I did not hesitate to send my car to her.
She knows her stuff and is pretty in tune with these cars. She also handles all of mt pre-owned vehicles at my dealership that have a Mazda badge so I wouldnt think twice to send my car to her
