relocating coolant overflow?
 

Hi. I was wondering if anybody has relocated the coolant overflow tube? I have had it overflow on me once (I was stupid and put some royal purple ice in, which put the coolant level too high which caused overflow),and it gets dumped right on the power steering harness, and shorts it out. I can fix the power steering in less than 15 minutes when this does happen, but I'd rather it not happen. Ive had two ideas so far. One would be to find another tube in the same diameter, but much longer, and run it to dump underneath, or to the side of the car. My second is to have a catch can for the coolant overflow. Has anybody done either of this, and if so what did you have to do accomplish this?

Have you done it? where did you have it dump to? directly on the radiator fans, or much lower? or did you redirect it altogether?

I ran mine down the rad hose and out one of the cross member holes...put a clip on it and it holds it there nice. No real way to screw it up---just run it lower than the pan and it will be fine

anything lower than the connectors you are find, just fasten with a clip

Mine just extends down some more and dumps straight onto the undertray.

There is a thread about this a while back. I don't remember the title, but that person showed pictures and DYI instructions for it. You have to search for it.

I extended mine down to where it extends out about 1/2 inch through one of the slots in the undertray. This way, it it happens it dumps right on the ground. The slot in the undertray happens to hold the hose in place perfectly.

You are overthinking it...make it longer..attach it somewhere so it doesn't flip around....done :)

So....while we are at it, it's probably worth noting for the Noobs to keep that hose out of the way of the fan blades when they extend it, if that's the route chosen. :uhh:

I also ran mine to the under tray.

dont sweat it. if coolant ever overflows, you got much more serious problems.

^..................some people don't know there is a full line because they never read a manual in their life.
So..............the fill it up almost full.............what do you think happens then?

I know this years late on a reply, mine just happen to short out my EPS. I cleaned the connectors and bought a 2.5 ft hose and ran it between the two fans down to the backside of the radiator to the ground. Didn't have to clip anything til the end bit so it stays in place. My 8 is missing the underbody at the moment, previous owner must have had too much fun 😩 So far so good on the relocating!

Pretty common for them to blow off using regular coolant following the engine being pushed hard in warm weather and nothing else wrong

My solution was Evans NPG-R coolant, which it never boils over under any circumstance, but it's primarily not a mod I recommend for street cars

Has anyone run the overflow to a catch can? kind of like the closed-loop coolant systems like petits?

why do that or buy that? is my counter response

well, with my petitt setup on the white car, its nice that all of the coolant that is pushed out is recaptured and then drawn back in. Then i'm not putting any slippery coolant on a course or a track. i guess i could try a slightly higher pressure cap and just extend the hose and route through the undertray like all the normal folks. ;-)
