Rebuilt engine troubleshoot (help!)
I have an 04 MT 8 w/ just under 105K. I was getting coolant in the oil so I had the engine rebuilt by a builder here in TX. I've put the engine back in but I'm having some serious issues getting it to run.
It's hard to start. It takes several tries to get it to run (assuming it doesn't get flooded before that point) and once running it runs smooth as can be between 1K-4K however it simply will not idle. When it approaches idle it starts to get a very throaty sound to the intake and will die if it is not revved back up. I've been trouble shooting this for some time and simply can't figure it out. Here's what I've done so far: Checked all vacuum/vent lines Clean ESS Reset NVRAM (multiple times) Reset KAM (multiple times) Checked all plugs/wires/coils (all were replaced during reinstall) Deflooded engine Also I don't know if this makes any difference but when it is running I have a CEL on and during crank the ABS and DSC lights are going on and off randomly. Any help would be highly appreciated as for now I'm going back outside to bang my head against the wall. |
could be anything, but the first thing to verify is that each wiring harness connector for the fuel injectors is on the proper fuel injector, quite a few people have gotten them mixed up when putting it back together and the engine won't run properly as a result

I would take a step back and just check everything. The injector wiring is a good start. I have seen a relatively small vacuum leak at the lower intake manifold service port keep a fresh build from idling.

I checked the wiring last night and it appeared fine. I'm going to back over everything this morning to make sure I didn't miss something before I put it back together and try again.

Hey, I still get the email alerts!
My problem was that the starter was going bad and not spospinn thing up fast enough which led to weird codes in the ECU on start. Replaced the starter and it worked fine. |
