Radiator Advice
Today, I found out I need a new radiator, 2 days ago i noticed i was leaking, and the leaking is not under the hood, it comes from the bottom of where the radiator is and flows down my driveway...Took it to the mechanic and he put it up on the lift and showed me what seemed like a crack or something that wasnt right on top of the radiator, so he said i need a new one. Been looking online, i dont wanna spend much, i never take my car to the track, i almost never drive it hard, only when i like some adrenaline rush in the highway once in a while but thats it. Mazmart and BHR are too much, the Koyo one is kinda affordable from http://www.worksconcepts.com/koyo/ko...5/i-35589.aspx at $322 and the Mishimoto from the same site for $255. So can i get any advice from ordering from this site and what kind of radiator will be appropriate for my kind of driving?? thanks!

Why not just get another OEM rad from a wreckers or something.
How much is a brand new OEM rad btw? |

If your in a tight budget, try your local junkyard/wreckers. Probably, you could find an oem radiator that is working and in perfect condition. Good luck.

You could even try a wtb in the parts forsale buy section.

As someone who has the koyo radiator I advise that if you're only options are the Mishimoto or Koyo you are better off buying an OEM radiator. The Koyo does nothing to increase the temperature delta from hot to cold when running the car hard.

I have the Mizu radiator and it seems pretty good; I had read the Koyo/Mishimoto isn't as effective as a stock rad. Decided to give this one a try based on reviews from other buyers..Unfortunately sold my AP so I can't comment on temps just yet, so if it's any better than the competition I don't know. Just by doing a visual check the fin density doesn't seem ridiculous and it is dual row.
The main reason I decided to buy one of these over an OEM or Aftermarket OEM rad was because of the all aluminum construction; it was in my price range and it wasn't a Koyo or Mishimoto. My last radiator, the top nipple to the reservoir broke off an entire chunk (not just the nipple) and decided if something like this were to happen again, if I were in a pinch I could get it re-welded. |
+1 on the advice not to buy cheap aftermarket. If you're looking to save money then the salvage yard is going to be your buddy. I think there are currently at least 1 if not 2 people parting out complete RX8's in the for sale section.
