Quick questions on Shock/Spring install

I just helped my buddy install new springs on his stock shocks on his Mini S. We didn't do any actual work compressing/decompressing and just brought the shock/spring combo to a shop and had them do it while we waited. Limited the exposure to decapitations, limb choppings, ceiling destruction, etc.

Curious if there's any reason why I couldn't do the same with my new h-tech springs but with d-spec shocks instead of the stock shocks. I know the rears take a little more work than we had to do with his Cooper but there's no reason why the d-spec shocks would cause a bigger problem then the stock shocks if the springs were already assembled, right? Hell if it saves me a few hundred bucks doing it myself I don't know why I wouldn't. However I don't know if I should leave techs any instructions on how to line up the springs on the shocks.

Beyond preloading the fronts and making sure I mark the alignment of the inner rear link bar (tho I'm going to get it aligned that week by pros) there's nothing special about installing our shock/springs from installing most other car shock/spring combos I'm missing, is there?

BTW - I've been through the MM install thread and didn't see anything. Waiting on TeamRX8s install DIY that sounded like it might be up soon.
