Question on replacing/programming a new key

Here is my situation:

Wife lost her key. So I only have one key and one valet key.

I can order a new key blank; however, the dealer wants to charge $100 to "program" it.

Can I code this myself without the second regular key?

Please someone post in LAYMEN'S terms how to do this.

Thanks in advance

Okey-Dokey....

Not a problem, real simple.....as long as you have TWO valid keys.

Order your new key, get it cut to match the original. (Not the valet, it doesn't open the trunk etc.)

Get all three keys ready, we'll call the new key #3.....

Procedure is, you show the computer that you have two legal keys, it will accept a third, (or fourth, up to eight!).

1- Put first key in ignition, turn to 'on' (not start), wait until security light goes out (3 seconds), then remove.

2- Put in second key, 'On', wait for light to go out, remove.

3- Key #3 in, to 'On', wait for light, remove.

4- Wait at least ten seconds, then try your new #3 key.

Probably a good idea to order two new ones, and program both......if you are down to one, the dealer and his expensive computer are your only choice.

yeah, my problem is that I am only down to one valid key. I have one key and one valet key. So I guess I will have to go to the dealer.

Thanks for the great instructions.

Valet is Valid.....

Same chip in a valet as a 'real' key, only diff is the cuts on the valet, it's missing some metal at the pointy end, so won't open the passthru or glove box or trunk.

It WILL work to program!

So I can use the DIY program using my one key and the valet key?

If so, this is going to save me $100!

OK I got the key cut and tried to program it myself. The new key starts the engine; however, it doesn't open the door or the trunk. It is basically a valet key.

What now? Is this a key cutting problem or a programming problem?

If the car starts and runs it is not a programming issue.
