Question about switching thermostats?
Since the RX8 runs very hot, couldnt I find another thermostat with the same dimensions but one that fully opens at 180 degrees and have no issues?

You could probably find one, but I would not recommend doing that. The factory thermostat is selected to hold the engine at an intended design temperature. Putting a lower one in would make it run too cool.
If the standard stat is opening all the way and your car is running hotter than intended, a cooler one won't help - it would open all the way, too. Ken |
Ah ok

If you purchase the cobb accessport from mazdamaniac, it turns the fans on at 180 degrees, thus keeping temps down. Plus a ton of other things it can do.

Stampede! I wish it was that easy of a solution for my overheating issues.

^ I have one of the three ready to go in.

I've got 1/3, should be aquiring at least 1 other component soon.

As others have said, our stock T'stats are higher rated for emissions purposes. Keep in mind that one of the reasons the rotary doesn't get as good fuel efficieincy as a comparable piston engine is its relatively low thermal mass. This is a compromise to keep it warmer. All design is compromise.

Maybe, Dave, but I still have a credit to decorate my new residence with, right? The move to AZ is accelerated, especially if my latest personal hope pans out.......;)
