Question about 4.777 final gear...

Where is the speed sensor place??? on gearbox or on the rear wheels?? coz i want change my final gear from 4.444 to 4.777 ....
i am afriad that if i change 4.777 final gear ... and the speed detector is on the gearbox... so the the speed reading will be wrong ( eg. actual speed is 90km/h will be read 100km/h ) :scared: is it have this problem??? and is there any method to solve it???
i just can find " Fujita Engineering (FEED) " have RX-8 final gear set .... is there any other factories have the same product provide???

ps. sorry for my poor English..... hope you guys can understanding what i said~~!! :beerchug:

Yes we understand. I don't know but Rotary God or someone will help you.

The speed sensor is in the gear box, so chaning wheel/tire size or the final drive WILL make your speedometer read incorectly. not by a whole lot, but it wont be as close as it is not.

As long as you know how much the differnce is its not that big a deal, IMO.

it will indicate 75 mph when you are actually going 70 mph, assuming the stock tire diameter is used

I think it would cost more to fix then it is worth.

I wants to change my final gear so much because my country is very small and many cars on the roads....
roads are very narrow , and i always run my 8 with other cars ( eg. DC5 , EP3 , Cilo ..... etc. )on the hill roads.... the speed about 85km/h ~ 135km/h , so i uses 3rd gear to run..... but you guys knows, 85km/h ~ 95km/h in 3rd gear ( about 4600rpm - 6000rpm ) RX-8 low torgue is very bad.... so i want keep the engine REV. in 6000rpm - 9000rpm ( rx-8 powerband ) ....... then i think change the orginal final gear to 4.7 or 5.1 is more better my 8..

the 4.777 gear with lighter wheels than stock and a light flywheel will give a good boost in pickup. and also (as you said) keep you in the power band.

watch out though about the posts of 'running other cars' ... some people might jump on you about racing

RX-8 PENNZOIL check out

Look at the frequency module neer the bottom of the page. You would neet to REDUCE the frequency by 7% to keep the speedometer accurate for the 4.777 rear axle ratio. Most people who use this for 4x4 trucks need to bump up the frequency to accomidate the large diameter tires so I would ask the manufacturer before you buy.

Macau sounds like an interesting place, I have a friend who raced a motorcycle on a street course in Macau and has scrape marks on his helmet from the guard rails on the inside of the turns.
