Query regarding the short block

I am in the market for an rx8 and I found one used one . The issue is that its had its "short block" replaced about a thousand miles ago. The car drives well otherwise, but I wanted o find out if that replacement reduces the value or makes the car worse in anyway.
Sorry for a very naive question, but I am new to the rotary concept and wanted to confirm it with people here before I bought it.
The carfax for the car is in the following link.

Would highly appreciate any advice
thanks

a "new" engine (most replacement engines by mazda are re-manufactured) can be a good thing. It was most likely replaced under mazda's 8year/100k mile engine warranty.

edit: How many miles on the chassis of the car? A new engine won't necessarily depreciate the value

it has total of 78k miles on the chasis... the short block was replaced 1k miles ago...is it better to buy one with a replaced short block or one which has the original short block and thesame no of miles (77k ish).I am also getting a 05 shinka with 78k miles on it in a similar price range.
thanks for the reply

i am of corse talking abt the longevity here..shinka is aesthetically better, but i dont care about that so much...
just want a car which would last longer and drive better

I would get the one with the longer warranty (shinka). Even though the engine has been replaced in the other car, it is still susceptible to failure.
The longer you can hold to warranty, the greater your piece of mind.

That being said, make sure you get a compression test of BOTH motors, before you make a decision.

PS where are you located? Warranty may be irrelevant...

I am located in NC,us... does mazda give renewed warrenty when it replaces the engine?

Hi.
Since I'm not allowed to start a new thread, I steal this one ;-)
Upon my search for short blocks in the online part lists I found that there are different part numbers for 6MT-versions:
N3Y102200 - w/anti theft label
N3H302200 - w/o anti theft Label
the 2nd one being about 2k cheaper?! So what should this anti theft label be as there should be no difference in the engine itself?

thanks for any suggestions,
Harry

I called up Jim Ellis Mazda about this and they said there's no functional difference between the two of them. I ended up getting mine rebuilt instead of buying a reman short block.
