Pulled Off broken Sun Visor and blew fuse
 

My driver side sun visor had a split for some time but, only recently did I have a problem keeping it up (insert joke here). So today it came down and I could not get it to stay up at all. The visor was separating a lot so I figured I could remove the visor completely and just leave the bare wires for the vanity light hanging. I did this by prying off the wire clip that was attached to the visor and the black wire broke off; the red wire is still attached to the metal clip which is now not attached to anything.

I was ok with the wires hanging there, it wrapped them around the metal arm that held the visor until I went to turn on the radio, no power; no power to the clock and temperature either and my power door locks don't work. After I turned the car off and went to turn it back on, the engine didn't crank for about a half second, cranked, started and then stalled. The idle seems screwed up, too low, as it stalled when I was turning into my parking space at work. My CEL has been on for about the last two weeks and I've done nothing about this. I've had issues with the CEL going on and off for periods of time ever since I've owned the car (December 2003) and gave up trying to fix the problems when the car was out of warranty, (December 2006).

Searching these forums it seems I blown a fuse, perhaps the Room fuse. I haven't started pulling fuses yet and before I do, can some tell me which fuse it is most likely to be and where that fuse is located, driver side interior or next to the battery?

As important can I just wrap electrical tape around the ends of the wires which formerly attached to the vanity mirror light to keep them from shorting out again?

Hello. Please refer to your owners manual for the Fuse Box location. Remember, always read owners manual before operating a motor vehicle.

This is the type of unreliability you get with the rotary :icon_no2:

make sure the wires are touching (Metal to metal) Also ensure the red wire is not touching that metal arm you wrapped it around.

Fixed. Blew the spare fuse as it seems there was a short in the wire somewhere. Unscrewed the visor arm and removed the wires at the plastic plug and then used the fuse for the fog lights, the lighter fuse was blown too, I never use it so I didn't know. Got to buy some fuses tomorrow.

Same exact shit happened to me today! Couldnt believe it, my visor split in the hot sun.

Mine was replaced when my sun visor broke. It was still under the warranty...happy for that.

I am new here and I really need your help. My visor on the passanger side was broke and kept hanging down so my son disconnected it and just removed it. Since then the radio, and a lot of the inside lights do not work. It is also slow to start, What do I need to do? Is it just a fuse that has been blown. I took it to the auto store to see if they would check the fuses for me and all they told me is that the visor runs on a circut and that if I replace the visor everything may start working again. Also is there any danger to these loose wires just hanging from where the visor used to be. I will be grateful for any help.

Just wanted to reply to this as the same exact thing as the original post happened to me today.

I replaced the fuse (room fuse 15A) and got everything back working again and have the new visor on order but...

Now my car idles too low, esp with AC on. Even stalled out at a stop sign.

So what gives? How could the room fuse mess up the idling of the car??

Didn't you know that the idle air control valve is in the sun visor??? :yelrotflm

It's not related, don't worry about the visor.

Thank you for the reply but this is an unwarranted dismissal, as when I started my car with the regular key before replcing the room fuse, my idle went nuts. It did affect it in some way.

Also, the stall was related, as I never stalled before at a stop sign, until right after blowing the fuse.

My best guess is blowing the room fuse reset the ECU or something?

Anyway after a couple days of driving it seems to have chilled out back to normal. Although, i swear my AC is messed up now.
