Problem after DIY key programming...help!

Basically, lost a key and had to buy some blanks.

After getting the blanks, found someone to cut one and when I used the DIY programming, it allows the key to start the car but doesn't open doors or trunk. It basically functions like a valet key.

FYI, I used a normal valid key (#1) and my valet key (#2) to program my new key (#3).

What now? Is this a key cutting problem or a programming problem?

I did not read your thread but I think they cut your new key like the valet key so they duplicated the wrong key.

I have other theories but answer his this did occur first

but I gave the locksmith my regular key, not the valet key

Hopefully your locksmith didn't "clone" the second key.

If he had the key code why didn't he use it?

She didn't have the code. She just cut it. I bought the blanks from www.streetkeys.com and brought them in to her to cut so I could use the DIY programming technique.

I used the DIY and the car started with the new key; however, the new key does not open the door or the trunk.

The key I gave her when she cut the blank was the regular key, NOT the valet key.

Please forgive the obvious question.

So you coded the new key for the engine immobilizer without any trouble. Did you have any trouble when you program the car door security system?

Well it was a key cutting issue. I took it back and with some "fine tuning" the key opened all it was supposed to.

So to let everyone know, the DIY Key Program does work. It only took 30 seconds!

Thanks to StealthTL, who put in laymen's terms for me how to do it:

"Not a problem, real simple.....as long as you have TWO valid keys.

Order your new key, get it cut to match the original. (Not the valet, it doesn't open the trunk etc.)

Get all three keys ready, we'll call the new key #3.....

Procedure is, you show the computer that you have two legal keys, it will accept a third, (or fourth, up to eight!).

1- Put first key in ignition, turn to 'on' (not start), wait until security light goes out (3 seconds), then remove.

2- Put in second key, 'On', wait for light to go out, remove.

3- Key #3 in, to 'On', wait for light, remove.

4- Wait at least ten seconds, then try your new #3 key.

Probably a good idea to order two new ones, and program both......if you are down to one, the dealer and his expensive computer are your only choice."

And so that everyone knows, the Valet key works as one of the valid keys!
