problem?

one thing i keep reading here is how low end usually 1-3 is so great and that high end gears suck. i seem to be getting the opposite in that the first 4k usually sucks especially in 1-3. anyone notice the same thing or have any reason why mine behaves out of the norm? i find my best power over 4500-6500. i notice alot crappier cars passing me by on low wne especially leaving lights. i'm not really blasting it either if thats any indication of why.

I'm not sure what you think you're reading ("low end usually 1-3 is so great and that high end gears suck"? makes no sense) BUT if you have less power at revs under 4K rpm, that's an indication that you may have burned out a coil pack. (A search for 'coil pack' should turn up several threads discussing this) If so, it's a dealer warranty item.

thanks, i'll have them check it. one thing i saw in the search, someone mentioned this won't show up in any codes at the dealer. some dealers are dicks when it comes to that.

Gears.....

Sounds like you are not using the gears in the same manner the other members are......

I think people were saying that 2nd or 3rd were their favorite gears, because if you 'use' 2nd properly, it's good for any 'downtown' driving, and 3rd will cover the rest, right up to semi-legal speeds.

The secret is to get the revs up.

If you drive it like a Corolla, shifting at 2700rpms, then yes, you will be passed by VW TDIs, but try 35mph at 7000 revs, it's just delicious! :D

i usually shift about 4500. i think i got a bit sissy on it after my initial poor mileage. it was getting around 13 and i thought i was driving it too hard. i've learned to live with the mileage since that is so not why i bought it :)
