Prestone coolant, is it 100% or what ?
I know they have 50/50 Prediluted Ready to use Extended life Anti-Freeze/Coolant.
Is the Prestone Extended Life Antifreeze/Coolant 100% Ethylene glycol or what ? I want to buy a couple of bottles cuz I have sources where I can get it cheap. and if its 100% ethylene glycol I will buy a case of distilled water with it. On the Prestone bottle it does not say if its 100% or whatever. |

if it doesn't say it's a mixture then it's not

Thats what Im thinking too. Let me tell my friend to get me a bunch of those
Yesterday I went to get a bottle of the Prestone to see how it goes, I used to get 50/50 only. if I mix it to 40/60 it should be fine for winter right ? (coolant/distilled water) (Reference : NYC winter months can go as low as about 15 degress F) Thx |
This isn't Dex Cool is it? (Extended life)
I have heard that the Dex Cool is not good for vehicles other than those that specify its use (Like most GMs). |
no, they make a separate extended life coolant
just go with 50/50 and learn how to google you clu3l3ss fock, all the info is on the Prestone website  figures this is from the guy who slams people the most for not searching ... |
Prestone site didnt say anything about 100%.
I did search and found info, just need some definite answer :P |

Not me, I believe the Renesis is a poster child for excessive heat build up which trumps galvanic issues (at least here in AZ!).
I use the Prestone Dex cool concentrate, but I only used about 3/8 of a gallon to the rest distilled water and 1 bottle of redline water wetter. I did a radiator and block drain and flushed out with about 2 gallons of distilled (just by gravity, not pressurized flushing). I also change out the cooling system fluid every season. Boiling point is lowered, but with my vented hood and soon to be installed fan mod, it will have a hard time getting anywhere near BP to begin with (this being an N/A car still). Plus, can't you buy a sacrificial anode for some cathodic protection in your cooling system, or aren't there any easily available metals that would fit the bill in this multi-metal motor? (and not mess up the water pump etc.) -C |
I did a mixture of about maybe 30/70 (coolant/distilled) now.
but I will change it back to 50/50 as soon as October Cuz its really cold in NY (lilke last year) and Im afraid that something might break if I keep it at 30/70 |
err.... better check your coolant cap. If it has FL22, you need those type. There's a blurb that some RX8 comes with FL22 for coolant rather than the usual stuff. Not sure what's the main diff though.

I have heard that the Dex Cool is not good for vehicles other than those that specify its use (Like most GMs). I have read and seen issues with the Dex-cool sludging and causing corrosion. I ran it in my previous car and I feel it caused its demise. :( After 3 water pumps and 3 intake gaskets my wife decided it was time to let it go. That is when I got the 8. :D: I will never run it in any of my vehicles even if it is a GM... (I've never owned a GM :dunno: ) |
