Power steering problems after rebuild
Good evening everyone. I am writing this after a long day of driving my RX-8 to break in my new streetported motor! I picked up the car yesterday and wrapped everything up that it needed. When the car was all done the only problem I had was that the power steering light was on and the power steering sure enough was not being assisted.
I changed my module to another tested one and it worked for a good 250 miles. Then it cut off again in the middle of me making a turn at a light, luckily I quickly caught on and was safe. I did the procedure to reset the power steering a few times and it worked once but shortly after it cut off again. Any ideas on what the issue could be? I also tried the day I installed the tested module cleaning the common fail point in the connectors multiple time with carb cleaner, and still no luck. I also tested the fuse with a multimeter and it was good. This really stumped me and I need to get it working because in 2 days I’m going to make a trip from NJ all the way to FL after I break the new motor in so power steering would be much appreciated lol. |
You probably need to replace the power steering harness with a new one. They are a common failure point. The part isn't too pricey from Mazda and if you remove the air box you should be able to get to everything to swap it out.
