Possibly a serious problem.
Last night I was working on my car wiring subs/amp with a friend until about 3am, we were testing fuses to see which one turned on with the car and turned off with the car. I ended up starting it and about 20 seconds later, shutting it off not realizing the engine was cold already. I figured I had flooded the car because when I tried to turn the car on again it just made 1 click and nothing else happened. We only had a cable attached to the positive and then to nothing at the other end at this time. The end of the cable was not around anything to touch.
We bump started the car 1st try to get home and now it's sitting in my driveway doing nothing. On a better note, we got the subs and amp wired and working and found a good way to wire through the firewall and into the trunk without taking any seats or anything out. I'll post pics. Does anybody know or have an idea on what this can be? |
flooding would mean that your engine cranks but there's insufficient spark to ignite the over abundance of fuel in the rotor housing.
If you ran your car for a while after push starting it then your battery should be sufficiently charged. Might want to try jump starting it just in case to rule out dead battery. |
you've checked all the fuses?

Could grounding the light to the doorlatch and touching a fuse with the end of the screwdriver blow it?

Thankyou! That must be it because we had the 1 side of the testing light on the doorlatch and touched the other side of it to the fuse for the amp on/off cable. Would any of the fuses in the bottom right fuse panel beside the mounted footrest pedal cause it not to start?

check both the fuse block by the dead pedal and the fuses under the hood.

Okay on my way out to do that now. Just pull them individually and check for the broken link inside?

Does anybody know what fuses would effect the car from turning over? When I turn the key to start it, it just clicks once. It clicks every time I turn the key to start if I did not clarify that already. Also what am I looking for in the fuse to see if its blown or not? and how to I test the big square ones under the hood.

looks like a couple fuses: 15A ignition or 30A accesory. i'm assuming the sound your hearing is the starter interlock |

check everything along the blue path, to include the relay. though the main ang ign fuses should prevent you even clicking the starter solenoid

Okay I have checked everything in the blue path, the starter ignition relay and starter relay are completely sealed in their box's so I don't know how to check those unless I replace them. Is there anything else I should be checking that could cause this to happen?

Also can I use an OBD reader to look and see if there are any codes? Or does it have to start to check these?

Have you tried a different battery or a jump yet?

Auxiliary works fine, I can still listen to music etc but it won't crank so I figured it wouldn't be the battery. I've tried starting it with a battery charger/booster pack and it still only clicks. Should I try a jump from another car?

ChArger/booster should've given you the cranking amps necessary to spin the flywheel.

Just tried to charge the battery, after a while of charging it, it still won't start.

have you check the starter by jumping it directly ?
take it out, see if it spins by jumping it directly with battery. if it works, then its wiring. if it doesn't, you know the answer. |
Alrighty, I think I'm just going to take the car into Mazda and see what they say. I work all day and by the time I'm home and eat dinner, it's dark. Hopefully they say it's just the starter and nothing big. I mean I got it bump started and it ran so it can't be the ECU or anything like that right?
