P0517 Related Brake Switch Fix

Just had to deal with this stupid code today. From reading the other threads I unplugged the 3rd tail light harness and replaced the other 2 since they blew with the STOP fuse. I thank everyone that contributed to those threads. Now its my turn. Everyone should know the manual says the brake switch can only be set once. Not anymore. I had removed and disassembled the switch before coming on the forum to find out about the 3rd light harness. If you need to remove or disassemble the switch to clean it, this is how you reset it.

First split the case in 2 using the tabs. Maneuver the white tab out. Use a philips to spread the steelpin and pull the button out with pliers. Reinsert the forked end of the steel pin into the white tab, you'll see how it spreads the pin. Put the brown piece back in with the reset tab on it. Put the button spring in the switch and then put the button back on. Carefully push in the button while holding the brown piece in until it clicks in. Put the case back on, careful not to push the white reset tab in. Now put the switch back in and connect it to the harness. Now you can check that it works properly after starting the engine. Congrats you just saved 40 bucks. Enjoy. If you screwed up, just reset it and try again
P.S. If the teeth on the button are worn, you'll need a new switch anyways. Feel free to try gluing the button into the brown piece, you'll need to be beyond fast to set it right before the glue goes hard though.

Just an update. I ended up having to order a new switch since the teeth on the button are worn out due too resetting it with the pedal pushed in. Been resetting it 3-4 times a day now because the button skips inside. Thinking about trying to glue it once I got the new one to keep as a spare. Do not touch the pedal when putting the switch in and plugging it in.
