Series1 is 2004-2008, Series2 is 2009-2011
https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-f...-i-own-221330/

If you have a automatic transmission on your 2004, then you have a 4-port engine, and the only compatibility is with another 4-port engine, which was only used in the 2004 and 2005 automatic transmission equipped RX-8s (unless you are somewhere other than the US)

If you have a manual transmission, then you can use any engine from a 2004-2008 manual transmission equipped RX-8, or a 2006-2008 automatic transmission equipped RX-8.

what makes you even think it is pushing coolant into the oil?

don't tell me it is because there is yellow snot under the cap and tiny droplets on the dipstick...

i've seen inner seals turn to jello while the outers still held up perfectly fine. about the only way to get it into the pan is by cracking an iron with frozen coolant.

i kept having to refill the coolant bottle and it was dripping under the car. i also took out the spark plugs and they had coolant on them. plus alote white smoke when the car was on.

well those symptoms make a lot more sense to me than the original post, which simply mentioned coolant mixing with the oil, which i have only seen one time on any rotary engine.

did you pull it apart?

Karack 08-07-2013 08:11 PM

it had a cracked front iron due to water only in the cooling system which froze over winter and cracked the friction surface into the combustion chamber(and likely other spots as well but i did not check it thoroughly, just pitched the irons).

UPDATE FOR THOSE WHO CARE:

im looking around dallas for an engine an everyone wants 1500 or more. i tell them that i can get one rebuild with new parts from rotary ressurection for 1600. Im gonna print out a page to prove that to them so they can go down on their price. why would i pay 1500 for an engine with 70000 when i can get mine rebuild to perfection for 1600 plus shipping. my negogiating skills are not very good so im gonna get my uncle to help me bring them down. any tips guys?

RIWWP 08-08-2013 06:52 PM

I believe I mentioned previously that there is no cheap way to do this.

You realize he is a moderator on this forum, correct?

That place you mentioned is ok. I'm not sure I'd want them rebuilding an engine for me though.

dont let people on the internet scare you bro.

anyway,s yea i was thinking the samething about that. he says the engine has 70k and he has the car he took it out of to prove it. truth is these engines are way easier to rebuild than a typical v8 i guess if the guy can show me a car he rebuild i could give him a shot. he might not even know how, like i said i didnt ask. if not ill just have to see if he can lower the price on the one he has. anyways ill just keep updating the thread till i fix it. why not right?

So no, they aren't the same price.

this is cheap to me. this is what i want. you say one thing then you say the opposite later. come on now bro dont let the mod power trip go to your head. its only the interwebz

I've been trying to help, with zero use or consideration of my moderator status. It's what I have been doing since far before I became a moderator. However, if you are going to deliberately try to provoke me because of my status, I have no problem exercising the options I have available.

I haven't contradicted myself. You can find those engines, but engines aren't always available, and if there are only a few out there at a moment, then they will be priced higher. Standard supply and demand economics. Even if you get a cheap engine, it's probably going to cost you time looking and cost you duration in being a higher mileage.

charlie419 08-08-2013 09:53 PM

so far i have just covered craiglist and ebay. im sure theyre out there. really didnt wanna be driving around junkyards trying to find one. looks like im gonna have to though. insurance companies auction cars here in dallas so if thiers a place to find one for cheap it has to be here. this place in loaded with junkyards and some only talk spanish so that might be my advantage over other buyers to find one.

I'd just like to chime in real quick.
Charlie419- Having to rebuild/replace the motor is a burden no matter who you are, and extra Kudos to you for having the balls to even consider rebuilding it yourself. Plus you'd get a ton of fun tools to add to your collection. :)

However... I think you should just agree to disagree with RIWWP, as he has been proven to be a very knowledgeable guy. I come on here only on distant occasions but I recognize his sn, and his name can be tied to many solved issues on here, including my own. He's got almost 10,000 posts so I gotta imagine he's picked up a lot of info in these forums as well as shared.

J8635621 08-08-2013 10:32 PM

Riwwp scare me? Lol

You saying that rebuilding a renesis is easy or cheap shows how ignorant of the situation you are. I'm sure you will make a smartness reply but I'm through with this thread. Like most other people on this forum you ask a question that has been beaten to death and then act like your answer is better than the truth. I hope this turns out better for you than I think it will.

charlie419 08-08-2013 11:25 PM

When I first bought the car it would take at little long to start so i asked. everyone here said the engine was blown. I changed the plugs and coils problem solved

Next when the car wouldn't start when warm. Everyone here said the engine was blown. It was just a blown fuse. Problem solved

Now that I blew the engine when I cracked my radiator a side walk and overheated the car till it blew (stupid I know) i have the right to be skeptical about people's opinions on here because in reality that's all they are OPINIONS. I'm not being senical just skeptical.

All I ask is for opinions because that's all you can give me from behind a computer.

I don't need to be talked down to or made feel like I don't deserve to drive a car like this like some members here do to all the noobs.

I didn't put your name on this thread you came in here on your own. Maybe your opinion is needed else where

Is that the reason why lots of them f it up and said it's Rotary's fault and it sucks ?

Your engine already had issue, so you were wrong, it's just that you are nothing but a moron and thought u are smarter than everyone else who has 100 times more experience than you do.

Result? a f up car ? ROFL

The worst that could happen is I'll get a rebuild for 1700 or spend a little more then I want to on an engine. What is it that you think will happen? It's just money.

After I fix my car will reach out to someone in the same situation and give him the options I found out about. Not act like you need to be an alien from outer space or rich to fix it.

Don't talk down help out.
