Orange gas light
When I started my car this morning the gas needle was below E and the orange light came on. As I drove and the car warmed up the gas needle went all the way up to 1/4 of a tank. My 8 has never done this. Normally right when I start the car the gas needle is accurate and goes to where it should. Does anyone else have this happen?

Mike,
Last week mine started out at a quarter tank and then moved up about three marks. I never noticed this before. The only thing different about the car is the "M" flash. |
I thought maybe the m flash was it
|
mines done it before the m and i have noticed again twice since the M. it reads one thing when you shut the car off but then when you turn it on again later it jumps up. other people have mentioned this in the past also. i remember seeing it talked about last year sometime. not an artifact of M but maybe being noticed more because M people are watching their gas gauges more.

well, I am always watching my gas and I have never since this on my 8 before.
I guess I won't worry about it |
Just got flash updated, went out to my car which is almost on E and saw nothing of the sort. I think I have the "N" version flash, just came out 2 weeks ago according to the dumbass service dept. lol

Parked on an incline maybe?

From what I understand from earlier threads the fuel tank under the rear seats actually has two 'pockets' at the bottom of it. If you remove the rear seats you can see that the 8 has two fuel pumps, one under each seat, one for each pocket. If you turn hard to the right with about 1/4 of a tank you may notice the car sputter as one side of the tank is out of fuel and the pumps readjust to feed the engine.
I imagine this is what happened with your car. When you parked, the side with the sending unit was empty, you made an adjustment in a turn and they leveled back out. Personally I have never let my car get down to the 1/4 line and had the light turn on. I didn't even know it was orange. It is miserable stoping for fuel at 150 miles every time however. |
thanks bob
that makes sense thanks |
