opinion, using used rotor housings?

Well short story of what happened to my motor.

Crossed some oil lines, ran low to no oil pressure and spun rear bearing.

Damage after taking motor apart:

Rear rotor bearing spun so rotor is shot.
Rear and intermediate housing need replacing.
Ecc. Shaft burnt scared.

Car has 90,000 miles on it. My question is, since I'm replacing 80% of the motor with new parts should I reuse my rotor housings? They are in a good usable state, and the tech was very surprised on how well they looked, 1- with 90k miles and 2- spinning a bearing.

There is no scares, and the out side groove that forms from the seal is very small. will these housings last another 100k. (I know there's no telling) money is eghh, but if it would be better to wait a few extra pay checks and replace them. I don't need the car asap. I have another dd for the moment.

measure it, if there were no chatter marks(or minimum chatter marks), no chrome flaking, no scoring mar(or just a bit), non-warp, no crack anywhere, then i dont see why not.

but on the other hand, if you are buying 80% new parts, might as well go all out!

Z0oMzo0m 04-14-2012 10:42 AM

There's was only one spot on rear housing right above spark plugs in the center it felt higher (not as worn) but other then that its smooth all around on both housings.

With new parts and the RB port. I want the motor to be strongest/healthy as possible.

only new housings would give you the closest to a healthy and reliable engine

well, u cant just feel it by hand nor a visual inspection, u need to measure it with a gauge

I wouldn't rebuild my own engine after being so dumb to see it fail for an oil line crossing issue. Besides, given the cost of parts i'd just buy a reman from a good reputable seller. I may sound like a broken record on this but it's the only wise thing to do.

Z0oMzo0m 04-14-2012 05:36 PM

Lol, ^ made me laugh. I admitted what I had done, you dont know how, why, where, what was going on. So for you to tell me to not rebuild it myself becuase of crossing some oil lines. Most people won't admit to there own.mistakes. your comment had nothing to do with the OP anyhow. So GTFO if your going to change topic.

Thanks nyc. The guy (Jr performance) either will tell you to replace the part or you can re-use. He won't second question himself on building a motor with used parts. It's either bad or good in his eyes. He said he would re-use the housings on the build.

I'll probably just buy new anyways and call it safe.

now that you have the motor out you can put a REAL rotary engine in there.. 26B:Drooling_

u mean another 60 grand.

(The engine alone cost like 30 Grand)

well, if i won that megamillions just a week something 2 ago sure

cool, yes. worth it? not really, for a street car at least.

redline86 04-17-2012 05:39 PM

Zoom didn't you also buy a blown motor for cheep from someone? I thought I remember seeing something on facebook about it. I could be mistaken though, but if I'm not whatcha planning to do with that one?

Z0oMzo0m 04-17-2012 06:58 PM

yeah i did, it was more for fun to take apart and show :) everything was FUC&#@ in that engine core. lol

redline86 04-17-2012 09:03 PM

Hey you can always attach a glass top and turn it into a coffee table like the guys have on top gear lol.

if i won the megamillions id replicate the 787b and throw a 4 rotor in, last car i would put a 4 rotor in is a rx8 if i won the megamillions :Eyecrazy:

aye, 787b is not streetable ... it doesnt even have a vin number!

a 20b(not 26b, and not pp port cuz it will be too loud) rx8 is streetable ... at least if i keep the noise low ... ppl who were so proud of their american muscle will be like wtf lol

Morning,

picked up some second hand housings. In really good condition - measurements great, no warping, no chatter marks, no groves.

One housing has some very small chips on the outer edge. Less than 2mm width. Longer of the two is about 7mm the other about 5mm

Would you use this housing?

Thx

Would a gap like that be acceptable in a piston bore?

No.

More acceptable than the seven year gap of posts in this thread. :yelrotflm

Those housings would work, but will be hard on the apex seals, produce reduced compression at low-RPM, and likely wear into more significant damage after awhile. Not worth it, better as shelf art.

nycgps 09-18-2019 12:17 PM

Aye, stop by to say hi lol

TeamRX8 09-19-2019 01:01 AM

Hey, he bumped an existing thread to add to it and regardless of how long it’s been that’s the proper way to handle it. You dodoheads need to pull your dodohead out of your rectum. In other words, never go full tard over someone bumping a thread with the proper intention. The next thing you know the full-tard grammar police will show up too.

Sorry to stray off track but im brand new to posting on the forums here, i just dont know where i would even ask this question. Okay hear me out on this one. I know there has been a discussion on hybrid engine renesis. But im in the process of doing a NA hybrid renesis build. I have the 84 s4 gsl se housings. Now what if on the LIM i removed the apv valves and the held the ssv valve open, that would allow more air into the motor and with a proper tune on an ecu, i have the rx8 adaptronic, it should in theory run very powerful at the top end for a higher horsepower NA hybrid build. I would need a custom exhaust manifold adn the mpgs would be terrible but who buys a sports car especially a rotary for mpgs.

would this be possible? And im going for more of a track oriented build so i wouldnt care so much about the low end power.

furansu 09-20-2019 08:32 PM

Those valves let air into the engine when they are engaged. Below their engagement windows the airflow velocity drops; closing the valves keeps intake velocity and power up. If you remove them, you'll lose power, not gain it.

Thank you, this helps me a lot
