Oil was white and nasty today
So, I've had the car for a few months, and the oil has always been black...of course.
Then today I checked it as it was low....as always, fugging oil burner...and it was white and foamy. I added oil and kept checking, all white. Im not to knowledgable on these motors yet. I called Mazda and they said this is 100% normal for rotaries and RX8's. Is this true? Not sure if it matters but, its been below 20 degrees here for a couple days. Thoughts? |
never fear, Jedi is here.
white / foamy substance on the dipstick is normal. This most commonly found during the cold winter months so no need to panic. Just make sure your oil is always topped off and keep on zoom-zooming. http://www.finishlineperformance.com...50-06-1664.pdf P.S. Look for a thread by Zoom44 about Winter. Lots of good stuff there |

I have also seen this in my 8, even before it got cold. When i talked to Mazda, they said that it is a natural by product of gas and oil mixtures in the engine. This, however doesn't make much sense to me because I have never seen this happen in a snowmobile or other 2 cycle engines. After talking to another mechanic, he said this is caused my moisture in the engine. What exactly is happening with this moisture, i'm not really sure, but it has something to do with cold weather and condensation. Nothing to worry about, just all the more reason to make sure your oil changes are done on time.

it does not have to be terrible cold just cold enough outside that the heat from the oil makes the insde hot and the ouside temp causes condensation inside the oil dipstick tube cause i milkshake type texture....u r all fine....
