OIL Pressure wiring ?

Dose any one have the OIL Pressure wiring diagram ?? or any one know where i can find a place to see it ??

Why?

From what we know - oil pressure sending unit is input to the ECU. The ECU controls the dash displays, including gauges - if you want to convert your idiot gauge to a functioning gauge, you're going to have to reprogram the ECU.

In addition..

As with many newer modern cars, the ECU communicates all the information on your dash via (2 wire per bus) high speed CAN protocol. Therefore you cannot do any sort of splicing in the gauge pod wire harness to isolate the oil pressure signal. However you MIGHT be able to break your gauge pod apart and physically replace the needle assembly with something else if you're creative and/or daring enough.

Otherwise, if you want to get a true oil psi signal you'll have to plumb a sensor into the port under your oil filter and run separate wiring to an external gauge.

so U are saying that if i wanted to use the aftermarket OIL Pressure gauge that i cant ?? well i was not asking about that all i asked for is the diagram and nothing els ?

As they mentioned- it's not going to be easy- we have a oil pressure switch (binary) instead of a working oil pressure sensor (analog)... so you'd have to replace that as well... but here's some schematics that might help if you want to tackle it...

thank you Man that's all i wanted to see :D i Might have something in Mind !!! ;)

I'm not an expert, but it appears to me that it should be doable without reprogramming the ECU.

Basic outline of steps looks like:
1) Short the PCM input 2E to ground to keep the PCM happy.
2) Replace the existing pressure switch with one that returns an analog signal.
3) Convert the analog switch signal to something the guage can represent.
4) Route the converted signal to the guage.

I guess the next question, is what type of signal does the gauge on the instrument cluster need compared to what sort of signal is generally reported by an analog pressure sensor.

The problem is that the PCM doesn't interface to individual gauges....it interfaces via some kind of bus to the gauge cluster controller. God only knows how that controller, inside the cluster, controls the gauge. I was going to basically do this, until I figured out I would have to crack open the cluster to find out if it was even possible....not worth it to me, and the clusters are way too expensive to get one to play with.

I also wouldn't mess with the stock pressure switch-to-PCM section. Just put a real sender unit somewhere else and route that to the gauge (if/when that is figured out). I am pretty sure the PCM does more with the pressure switch signal than simply control the gauge.

Well, that blows chunks over anything I can think of for an EASY oil pressure guage fix... :(

I know. Stupid computers!

pressure wiring

Anyone have access to the rest of the wiring diagrams. My local dealer can't get an OEM manual for at least 2 months, and they want $190US for it. Too bad , as my SC miata is ailing :( , and I want to see what in the gizzard of the 8.. I would never try to mod my previous two 7s, but my toying with the miata makes me more likely to do some stuff to the 8, once the warranty is up. Anyone know of a SC , or TC, or anyother mods easily done. Was going to install an air horn, but was surprised the 8 has a real horn, not a typical meep-meep Mazda bleeper. The only mod so far is getting new wheels, tires, and sensors to use in the winter.

9999-95-040G-04 2004 RX-8 Wiring Diagram Available RX-8 2004 2004 $50.00

This is the part number for the wiring diagrams.

The 50 bucks is cost..190 is alot of mark-up.

Damn stealerships.

slow_eddie 12-26-2004 07:57 PM

ok, the price is $50, but who, where, how to order such a thing? In Miatadom it is easier to locate such things, but those have been around since 89. TIA for the answer to a newbie on this site.

The $50 is dealer cost so expect a little mark-up.

This is the diags only..
