Oil level when starting
 

I live on a terraced street in the North of England which was originally constructed by the Romans as part of a one way system to cater for perhaps half a dozen ‘merchant type’ chariots per day – you know the sort I’m talking about.

This means that people have been forced for hundreds of years to park their vehicles, half on the road and half on the pavement to facilitate free movement of animals and since the advent of the ‘motor-vehicle’, minimize wing clipping.

Having just bought a silver RX-8, viewed and now joined this forum, I like many others am now becoming paranoid about colour, mileage, engine oil, flooding, and why on earth did Wankel do this to us all?…

Anyway, because my RX-8 is always at an angle (driver’s side down) when I start it in the morning, can the rotary engine suffer damage because the engine oil level is at an angle in the sump? Or am I just being paranoid?

Probably the latter. :)

I checked the oil pan diagram in the shop manual, but it didn't really show the pickup point for the oil. There are baffles in the pan to keep the oil from sloshing about during spirited driving, but I'm not sure if those baffles serve any function for a standing engine. However, I suspect that if you keep the oil topped up, you should not have a problem because there will be enough oil in the pan for the pickup to access. I'll have a look at the parts manual to see if that is of any help.
