Oil leak
I noticed an oil leak dripping from the left front corner of the bumper of my '04 8. The cooler line end is just a big ball of rust! anyone elece have this problem?

There is a recall for this in Canada..they check and replace corroded oil cooler lines..and change the wheel well liners
If you live in the NE or an area with a lot of salt..you might want to complain about it loudly...I hear that they sometimes replace them there as a courtesy when you call them on the Canadian recall |
Mazda already said NO, but I'm hoping for a later recall so I can be paid for my work at a later date. The OE cooler lines (all eight) will cost over $1700!!! Mazdatrix has a three piece replacement kit for $449 I think I will go that route

Salt will destroy the alloy fittings quicker than the steel fittings.

A local guy here had the same problem and had to buy new lines.
He got the stainless steel lines from Racing Beat for $449. |
The strange thing is I haven't driven my 8 in a winter month since December 2008, when I got cought in a suprise snow storm! I think they are just made of a very cheep metal, with no protection!! I don't even drive it in the rain.

I found a huge puddle of oil in my driveway and took my 2006 rx8 to the Mazda dealer in South Florida, (the car was in NY for the last 3 years and i only have 20,000 miles on it)they say it the oil cooler line and want to charge me $650. I told them i am calling Mazda NA and they said that they will see what happens.
But as of now they are saying its not covered. This is crazy, they know its a problem and set a precedence with the Canada recall and still do nothing for the USA cars?????? |
Here's a follow up. both Mazda NA and the dealer. Lou Bachrodt Mazda said they will not cover anything !!
UNREAL !!!! |
There will have to be a class action billion dollar lawsuit before Mazda does anything! You would think they would at least make replacement parts affordable! $600 will only replace the lines that are leaking, there are about nine total lines in the cooling system! The parts alone were going yo cost over $1500!!!

a three piece all stainless steel braided replacement kit is available from "Mazdatrix" and only costs $449. Yes I said only! That does not include labor. Mine should be here later this week. I'll keep u posted
