Oil Filter/Oil change Question for the experts
Just wanted to thank everyone for the great hints/directions/best practices for DIY oil change for the 8.
Quick question! I changed my oil and could not get the filter off (wrong adapter). To make a long story short I changed the oil and left the old filter on. I now have the right tools...Can I still change the filter with the oil level at full? Thanks in advance. Worst case senario I'll just wait 3000 miles and do it the right way the next time. |

I would think opening the oil fill cap might help equalize that some. Not sure if you saw my tip on that, but a diaper wrapped around the filter base can really minimize the mess. Also, even with the right adapter, you might want to try a bit of sandpaper on the inside of the filter wrench for this first one... it's on crazy-tight.

i changed my oil last night and i was amazed at how easy it was. the only reason i needed to lift the car on the jack was to get the drain plug back on with the correct torque value.
thnx mazda for making this an easy job. :D yamajj  |
