Oil filter
I am writing this since these days, original Mazda filters are hard to almost impossible to source and other aftermarket filters are 3 to 4 times priced
and they are even inferior in some aspect. Fore series I mostly and by mistake of course, people referring it as 13b on rx7. However, Renesis engines are different animal. There are few variant in lubrication system and obviously we can not change/ adjust them easily but we can chose a good filter. IMO rx8 need bigger filter as it has higher oil capacity and bigger filter also means increased filtering surface area. As it goes to determining paper quality of filters I have to say there few major companies and they sell paper to other filter manufacturer, major difference are in theses areas 1- filter case material, 2-check valve material(Anti-drain back valve), 3-check valve design and place 4-check valve numbers, 5-by pass valve opening pressure 6- O-rings 7- other factors Also keep in mind some are only rebranded filters. Spec of what the most of people use: Thread size is M 20 X 1.5 Base diameter O-ring b/w 54-62mm Outer dia 66mm Filter length b/w 60-66mm Bypass Valve Opening Pressure 1.0 bar Anti-drain back valve one on input Red colours are fixed sort of unless you made major changes. Spec of what I have been using : Thread size is M 20 X 1.5 Base diameter O-ring b/w 54-62mm Outer dia 66mm Filter length b/w 90mm 3cm taller Bypass Valve Opening Pressure 1.0 bar Anti-drain back valve one on input two anti-drain vales, one on input and other on output https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...25bd72c337.png Enough clearance, even after I installed oil sandwich. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...e51e0cbfa4.jpg |
Thanks for the info, but a little search on our site would show multiple threads about which filters fit....

Yes, both “us” and “we” are intentionally stated :)
you still don’t get it ... |
I just bought 4x OEM filters from my dealership the other day. Didn't realize they are hard to come by. I can source you some if you'd like :)

Super tech oil ($3.89 qt) and oil filter (3.89).. Never understood why spend more when oil meets/exceeds mfr recommendations. Been using Supertech oil/filters on my Vettes since 2005...

I tend to spend money on oil and filters on all my vehicles. The amount it adds up to over a year isn't all that much and it makes me feel better, which has a value. Not for a minute saying there's anything wrong with what you are using, I just go with what makes me feel good. :) |
he’s in the UK guys
