Oil cooler hose popped.

Hi..

So i was driving to work today on the freeway when i noticed smoke coming outta my bonnet soon as i hit the start and stop traffic. I parked the car on the side of the road and noticed oil was pouring outta the car. As I inspected I noticed the oil cooling hose for the transmission has popped.

I was wondering if this is a common problem? is it easy to fix? and is it expensive?

Thanks,

Geoff

Its not common.

cooling hose for transmission? i guess you have an AT ?

Hmm, just stick it back in, add some ATF back and good ?

Yeah, anyways its fixed now - no more leaks. The oil that initially leaked went all over the exhaust manifold..after 15kms of driving after the leak is fixed up...it still seems to be smoking from the bonnet.

Could it be that the oil that leaked hasn't fully evaporated?

don't notice anything weird with the car, no power loss anything...compression check was done awihle ago, all good results.

This is the first time my car has been in a mild issue with almost 130000 on it now.

It can take a while for oil on a hot surface to evaporate. You might try spraying it down with solvent (maybe brake cleaner) when cold ...which would then have a shorter burn-off time.

What was the failure like? Hose need to be replaced, or was it just a slip-on end that needed to be re-clamped?

Good to hear of an 8 with 130,000 miles.

whole cooling feed needed to be replaced. pretty much almost the entire tranny oil came out on the side of the freeway.

Just arrived at work 40miles from home. The smoke is gone, but it still emmits a faint burning smell of oil. So i think its all good, just keeping a eye on any tiny leaks.

It can smoke up to a week and a half if it gets into the all the cracks.

Noted. Thanks
