"Clicking noise"

I started to notice an annoying "clicking noise" coming from the engine compartment - it sounds like the fan is switching on and off. It's pretty loud and I can hear it inside the car with my windows up. It happens constantly every 20-40 sec. even when the car is cold... I spoke with my dealer and they said that it may be a A/C fan. The only thing is that I'm not using A/C when is 40 outside... Any suggestions?

damn, I was going to say A/C but then I read your 40° comment.
pop the hood and see if you can identify where it's coming from. Maybe from the belts? Alternator area?

ok, so there is that small pulley all the way on the right. It has a plate that turns on and off like every 20-30 sec. Every times it start spinning I can hear a loud "CLICK"... It drives me crazy tho... Any ideas?

One of your spark plug wires might be loose and the spark is jumping.
Check the connections at the coils and at the plugs.

That's your AC compressor, I believe (which is what Jedi was going to allude to). Unless your AC is off, it will do that. The higher the setting of your AC, the less often it turns on and off (at level 4, it's on for a very long time).

But you said you don't have the AC on?

Ac is off and it clicks... I tryied turning in on - it didn't change anything. Clicks constantly every 20-30sec.

I think I just take it to the dealer and let them deal with that. I thought that maybe one of you guys had the same issue...

Are you running the defroster? The A/C compressor runs in the defrost mode.

The reason why it's confusing is because you have the AC off.. so short of EDZRide's answer, I don't know why your compressor is running.

Like the others said, that is your A/C compressor, the "thing" you're seeing is the A/C Clutch.

Something might be wrong with your HVAC controls.

exactly what I was gonna say.

you are definitely hearing the A/C clutch engage and disengage the compressor.

could be that your A/C is actually on due to faulty circuitry in the HVAC controls, def not unheard off.

I'll stop by the dealer next week and let them check it out. Thanks for your input!

I know what was the problem EDZRIDE was close - I just went downstairs to check my oil level and my climate controle mode was set for the window and floor. I guess front window defogger turns on the A/C compressor as well... I'm guessing that's normal... Thanks again!
