Odometer/ Ecu Mileage

Alright so I hooked up my blue tooth obd2 and i'm using the torque app on my phone. My odometer reads 53,545km but my phone reads 52,212km,( coming from the ecu read out ) I wonder why that is? has anyone used the torque app and noticed the difference between those?

odo probably also reads reverse distance?

I think the mileage displayed on the OBDII stream is how many miles since last ECU reset. Did you have any work done when the car had 1333 km on it? Such as a PCM reflash or check engine light cleared?

not sure bought it at 25,000km but ive done work my self cleared many check engine lights lol.. its probably nothing just felt it was strange and well curiosity got me

Hi All,
Well I'm sending this months later...
I have ELM 327 bluetooth OBD2 connected to Torque app (free) on Acer tab pc; I cant seem to read odometer value from on Corolla 2008.
Any ideas?

What makes you think that us, on an RX-8 forum, have any information on how to retrieve odemeter information on a corolla?

Have you checked with these guys?

Hi RIWWP,
Oops! my bad.
Ignoring the corolla mentioned, has anyone been able to view odometer value on Torque app?
(I probably ask on a Toyota forum too :) ).

RIWWP 06-17-2012 10:38 AM

No, you cannot with the RX-8. The odometer mileage for our cars is stored in the cluster, not in the ECU.

wow. we are getting more and more morons everyday !

I'm sorry for bumping an old thread but WAIT A MINUTE. If the milage is only stored in the cluster, then how did the OP check his milage using the Torque app on his phone?

nycgps 04-05-2016 05:52 AM

because you can get the odo information via CAN bus, so yes you can get it from torque app

actually, there are so many ways to "adjust/set/change/whatever u call it" to your odo, For Mazda, IDS (WDS) used to be able to do that, but the "feature" was removed in 6x.xx or 7x.xx i dont remember, simply because so many people abusing the shit out of it. but hey, just because they removed it in IDS doesn't stop anybody from accessing and mod the crap out of it. I know how, it's fairly easy, you need basic understanding of CAN bus, there are loads of free library online, u just gotta know what you need, get them, compile, boom~

Some other cars like Mercedes stored their ODO in multiple module, like cluster, TSM, ECU, airbag module, etc, when 1 is mismatch, it might not throw an error, but whenever the owner sends the car back to dealer for service(usually 2nd owner), as soon as they plug their computer into the car, it runs a check on every module and will let the dealer to know if one has been tampered. they are harder to mess around because some of them have some kind of build in self-check so if you change the numbers, it will know.

Thanks for the detailed answer nycgps. That's pretty neat how Mercedes does it. So in our cars, does Torque pull the odometer reading from the cluster?
