Non-functional diffuser made functional?

Given that the diffuser is a disfunctional mesh look-a-like,

given that it would look cool as a real mesh if it weren't for a shiny muffler behind it,

given that I would still think it would look cool even if the muffler were visible behind the mess,

and given that it seems to me that people have noted a hot trunk due to a hot muffler,

What do you all think of replacing this portion at the rear of the car with a real mesh/diffuser? Do you think it might be feasible that a real mesh could be implemented that would increase airflow under the muffler, and possibly act as a diffuser as well?

...real diffusers have no mesh, they're just like an upward ramp for air from under the car... without other serious underbody work to control turbulence under the car, even a proper diffuser wouldn't be able to help you too much as far as downforce is concerned... looks-wise?? certainly.

btw: it's now my personal, steadfast belief that the RX-8 is in serious need of a high-flow single tip muffler... (no, i don't mean a straight-through fart can, i mean a high-flow muffler)

I think the original designs for the exhaust had it ported as a single output through the center of the aft rotor symbol.
