Noise from my engine compartment

Hi everyone,

I just got my red 2005 rx-8 and could never been happy with the purchase but I recently noticed weird noise under the hood when I'm driving. I've read similar threads here but wasn't sure if I have the same prob.

I hear this whirring or air leaking noise which kinda like a sound you hear when a/c is on. It get louder when I'm accelerating and sometimes it drowns my sweet rotary sound!

Anyone else hear this kind of noise? Is it normal? Kinda annoying if you ask me.

Thanks in advance guys.

If it's a light whirling sound then its normal but it should kinda turn into a shrill when you go WOT. It kinda hard to explain sounds.

let me guess u hear it in the first few seconds of acceleration and it almost sounds reminiscent of a turbo right? like a high pitched whistle?? i got it too...and ive asked on here and they have all said its normal. is that what ur hearing???? where are you located...id really like to hear someone elses car make the same noise myself just to feel better.

Think I've heard it to. It almost sounds like a blow off valve if it's the sound I hear, but much quieter, and only when the a/c is on.

air intake?

If it's the sound i think it is it's the air intake. The box does'nt drown out all the sound from it and it's one of the most open stock air intakes i have seen. I have an 05 myself and heard the same sound so i asked the techs and they could'nt tell me what the noise was but they said all of em on the lot have it.

Thanks for the replies guys.

It's kinda comforting to know that others have heard the same sound. Now I've learned to ignore it and just drive. My car's still in break- in stage so I can't really push her too hard but still love how she handles and sounds.
World of difference since I used to drive a 4 banger 2003 eclipse.

By the way SilverrbRX8, I'm located in Aberdeen, WA in the boonies. Everyone here drives a truck and my red rx 8 really stick oout. lol

Seems to be a bit of that going on lately. People posting threads with their problems and then disappearing off the face of the planet...

OMG RUN FOR UR LIVESSSSSSSSS ! 2 YR OLD THREAD ARGH !!!

So what if it's 2 years old? .... What's the use of starting a new thread with the same problem?

In one thread i read that it should be normal, in another thread i read that it's a problem with a vacuum hose or something.... i'm not sure how it sounds like, and i'm wondering wether my sound is a 'normal' whistle or if there's a problem somewhere....

It sounds worse than it is in the clip btw.... cellphones don't really record low frequencies....
