No shift tone in 2007 models?

So, I finally hit my 1000mile break in period on the way home today, and decided to get the car up in the RPM range. I pushed it a little far to show a friend the shift tone, and nothing! I hit 9500rpms and instead, the car just gave me the good old rev limiter / gas shutoff. WTF?

I thought that the whole point of the rotary was its unbelievable ability to keep revving past the redline, hence the shift tone? I know the governor is safer, but come on... the tone is just cooler!

Has anyone else experienced this or am I just an oddity?

*edit, the beep works. I just heard it this morning a couple of times loud n' clear

RX Gator 08-05-2007 05:31 PM

Uh, I have never personally tried to take my car past 9500. I thought the redline/fuel cut off was there for a reason lol.

pearsonm90 08-05-2007 05:47 PM

Ive hit 9500 before and never had this problem with my 07 maybe something you should take a look at

Did yours also have the rev limiter after the tone? Or were you able to power through it?

OfficeNinja 08-05-2007 06:15 PM

Yep, just checked again in 1st, 2nd and 3rd... no shift tone. Windows up, air off, no radio. 8500rpm's and NADA.

Are there any MAZDA people on here that can explain this?

Brettus 08-05-2007 07:07 PM

you probably have one of the cars with the crappy shift beeper (like mine) . It probably does work but you just can't hear it . I had to install another one

OfficeNinja 08-05-2007 07:16 PM

Meh, it's going to the dealer for it's 1st oil change this week. I'll have them replace it.

grnsharingan 08-05-2007 07:17 PM

well im an 07 and i have a beep so u should prolly go get it looked it :)

JasonW 08-05-2007 07:23 PM

+1 mine beeps somewhere right before 9krpm. cant say i ever pay attention to exactly where though.

Rotary Rasp 08-05-2007 07:32 PM

8500 rpm is when the buzzer sounds...

correct - but the optimistic tach will be telling you 9000

OfficeNinja 08-05-2007 07:55 PM

Are all of you going WOT when you are hearing it? I must admit that I am gradually increasing the rpms to the range and never have I put the pedal to the floor.

Reading through this... this is such a noobish post for me, and I apologize. I'm pissed because I babied this car for 1000 miles, and was waiting for the beep to be like a little voice that said "Welcome to the club". Normally, I don't nitpick over this shit, but when the MSRP of a car starts around $34K, if it's supposed to beep, then it damn well better beep.

ScottyStyles 08-05-2007 08:02 PM

It's a very rewarding beep too, so it's a good thing to nitpick about.

The beep is totally useless. I can't hear it over the sound of the engine unless I'm listening for it, and if I'm listening for it then I already know I have to shift soon. Kind of defeats the purpose.

sleeperx8 08-05-2007 08:29 PM

that sucks... my beep is nice and loud... whether i'm WOT or not

An oem, or an aftermarket beeper?

mysql101 08-05-2007 09:27 PM

just get it wired up to your horn. That way you'll know when you hit the redline, and everyone around you knows to get out of your way.

My beep is loud, here it about every day.

For the record, my beeper is also very quiet... have to listen for it to hear it. You may say it's useless.

Mine runs off my piggyback EMS so I can set it to any rpm I like :)

LionZoo 08-06-2007 12:14 AM

Try going WOT and see if it beeps. You might just not be giving it enough throttle since I heard there was something about amount of throttle and whether it beeps or not.

305WANKEL 08-06-2007 12:25 AM

I Hear My Beep Loud And Clear, Cant Really Say @ What Rpm Exactly But I Hear It , And If You Wanna Go Over 9k Rpm, Rev It In Neutral And It'll Go Over 10k Rpm

Rotary Rasp 08-06-2007 01:30 AM

doesn't matter if you're WOT.

Hey! That was my line on an earlier, similar thread!

OfficeNinja 08-06-2007 08:01 AM

Hey, I don't know who the A-hole was that started this thread, but I hear my beep fine. 1st, 2nd, 3rd... every time.

Wait, that was me. Yep, I tried it again this morning getting on the highway on the way to work... it beeps every time, right at about 9K rpms. Sorry for the post. I had a moment of weakness, and anger.

And yes, that beep is extremely rewarding.
