No LOW Washer fluid light? WHY?

Ok so my 04 with the black washer reservoir has now low fluid warning light yet you can find where it would light up if it had the sensor in the gauges so why did Mazda think that putting a solid color fluid tank without a indicator light for low fluid be such a great idea. I unplugged the one electrical thing I saw down there(turned out to be the motor) So no help there. My car is the sport by the way so nothing fancy but really they skipped out on something that cheap. End rant

Spinning Sushi 02-21-2010 03:54 AM

That's why they replaced all the reservoirs with a clear plastic one on the 05 and up.

NgoRX8 02-21-2010 03:55 AM

lol... yea, mazda knows they messed up there.

 I saw your ninja edit. I beat you to it. :)

Jedi54 02-21-2010 04:46 AM

PM mazmart, they can probably get you a clear one.
you must love to use the wiper fluid if you're running out...

SayNoToPistons 02-21-2010 11:24 AM

I guess I'm the only one that prefers the black wiper fluid tank.

josuar88 02-21-2010 11:32 AM

I mean I like the tank no problems there but why couldn't they have added the sensor if you look in the gauge cluster the light for low fluid in the washer reservoir is there.

elysium19 02-21-2010 11:34 AM

If you run out of oil, it will destroy your engine. There's a light for that.
If you run out of fuel, it will starve your engine. There's a light for that.
If you run out of coolant, it will seize your engine. There's a light for that.

If you run out of washer fluid.....well then you're just going to have to look at the splattered bug until you get home. You don't need a light for that. :-)

josuar88 02-21-2010 11:45 AM

No what Im saying is because they decided to go with a black color reservoir why didn't they add the sensor since there was a light already integrated into the dash for it thats all? Its not like I'm going to start another "Done" thread because of it lol

SayNoToPistons 02-21-2010 12:02 PM

Reason = Cost

I don't even remember the last time I used washer fluid in the RX-8.

NgoRX8 02-21-2010 12:04 PM

hmm..light? where?

alz0rz 02-21-2010 01:12 PM

I use my washer fluid all the time. True story.

NgoRX8 02-21-2010 01:46 PM

I've been running water/meth injection in that tank for the past year..

driving the car in the winter, melting snow gets the windshield dirty pretty quick so the washer fluid is a must or you can't see

I can't see why my Mazdaspeed Protege had the light but my RX-8 doesn't.

Glass Science Rain Clear applied from time to time will really help keeping the windshield clean. Rain steams right off and almost nothing sticks to my windshield anymore.

If you take a flash light and put the beam up by the top of the fuel gauge you will see a light that was made for the washer fluid fyi

KW99 02-22-2010 08:11 AM

Was the sensor just fitted to certain models of RX8 as mine definitely has one (it came on the other day to tell me it was getting low)?

Oh before anyone asks yes it is still the original black tank on a 2004 6 speed.

That's interesting. Looks like they intended to have a warning light, fell behind on the sensor and wiring, then a year later decided to do the translucent tank instead.

Not too often that you find firm indications of this kind of "ummm....errrr...well let's...". :)

If you top it off everytime you top off your oil you would probably never run low.

nate340 02-22-2010 11:27 AM

i have a low washer fluid light. maybe its a Canadian thing.

TheWulf 02-22-2010 11:27 AM

Umm you guys seriously don't have a low washer fluid light?

Maybe it's a US thing but up in Canada we have them and they work. There's a sensor in the bottom of the tank, maybe your sensor is fried?

Anyways when I did my OMP install and put 2 smaller tanks I relocated the washer fluid level sensor to my premix tank, and now my low washer fluid light goes off when my premix is low.

Vyndictive 02-22-2010 11:30 AM

The Canadians and I think the Europeans have washer fluid squirters for the headlights too that mandated by their governments (I think, no sure though)
US Models don't have those, either.

Maybe that has something to do with it? :dunno:
