Hey guys,
Upon returning from my deployment, I recently purchased an 04 8, with 97k miles on it...question is, what are known issues with the 04 model 8's after 100k miles, when considering modifying my 8, should just do a full engine overhaul and do my mods piece by piece or should dump 8k on a new 3 rotor engine?

The thought of doing it myself piece by piece is something I would prefer due to the fact that I would have a sense of adding my own personality to the vehicle, but passing 100k miles scares me, don't want to pool my funds in and the engine craps out, but on the other hand this route can also be less costly.

Any tips would help, suggestions but please, I'm new to the forum and haven't had the opportunity to really look through each thread page after page to see if this topic was covered, so if it was, sorry but please don't try and bite my head off, had way too many Haji's try and blow me up wayyyyyyy too many times overseas for that...

there is no "after 100k mile" issue. It all depends on the maintenance history of the vehicle. Get a compression check with your local dealer. Mazda has a 100k mile warranty.
If no luck there, try a few of the vendors of the club for engine rebuild.

Lastly, welcome home. I don't want to sound like I'm starting anything, but please refrain from using the term "Haji". It's disrespectful. Besides, the word is completely misused ;)

So rebuild kits are meant for? or serves as a? should a full overhaul or tune up be considered or is that what the rebuild kits are for?
The vehicle was purchased from a hole in a wall "whole sale" dealership where it was sold as an "as is" purchase, found out a few weeks later that the tranny was badly in need of tranny fluid and that shavings were allover the inside...certain parts in the vehicle didn't quite flushly fit with eachother, like the hood and front bumper, or liquid in my tail lights...but for $6k it was a steal, though purchasing the vehicle from, the term I cannot use, did put me on the edge...

Any suggestion on that?

Rebuild kits contain the usual (engine irons, seals, gaskets, etc). Basically, "engine core" bits.

You still need a sh!t ton of stuff to get a properly rebuilt engine. Try this

Throw some pics of her up here so we can see what you got going on. These are my suggestions to you. If you have the funds and the time.

-Change the oil immediately, never know when it was done last.
-Call Mazda and ask them to run your VIN to see what work has been done to the car, if it has a new engine or not.
- Then if you can, make an appointment to get a compression check done, you may end up with a brand new re-manufacturer engine, then you can go FI!
