look under your hood right where the latch is, there should be a sticker specifying which file has been stored into your PCM.

no most dealerships dont have those stickers.

And yeah, I didn't get any sort of sticker under my hood. I feel a little jipped. |
Just to update car still feels great, and I also picked up 1 mpg with this flash on the last tank. Now up from 16 to 17 with mixed driving.

in regards to the sticker.. my dealer said that Mazda doesn't bother to give them enough stickers.. so they don't have any to fill out, affix to the vehicle.
The computer though should say if your car had the mandatory flash (M?) anything beyond that is between you and your dealer (AFAIK.) |

So I'm just wondering if they didn't just reflash me with one of those old "updated" M flashes.

first you have to go into set up menu. 2nd go to version and makesure it tells what version you are running. now go The back door. which is Up-up-up- down-down-down-up up . after you do this it should take you to screen you have not seen before. Once you ar ein the scene go to software and click on teh button to enter. once you enter go all teh way left to teh last option and click on it. it should say what ecu flash you have. It says main ecu M Main CPU (M) Ver U4.06 2002.9 Main CPU (F) Ver U9.95 2003.1 Sub CPU Ver 82 Anyone know the SOFTWARE VERSION display readlings for previous/other flashes? My dealer said they flashed to P at my 50k maintenance, but have no way to verify. |
NEW 8 owner
I am a new 8 owner and love my car. You all talk about flashes, how do I find out what version I am on, and how do I get my dealer to update to the most current?
Thanks! |

Just wanted to add an update on my P flashed 04.
Another road trip from Michigan to Kentucky this past weekend...and I was shocked by making it all the way there on a single tank of gas. I did drive slower thanks to the ever present cops, 4th of July weekend...it's to be expected. Anyway, doing about 65-70 the entire way...my trip meter showed 342 miles, I bought gas right near my destination and it took 12.62 gallons which equates to 27.099 mpg. I was a little worried about running out of gas, but I really wanted to get the fuel light, but never did. No A/C at all (drove at night), and it was relatively cool...ranged from 65-75 degrees the whole trip...When I saw 211 miles on my trip meter, and a couple of ticks below 1/2 on the guage, I knew it would be a great...by the way, my normally weekly driving which averaged 14-15.6 mpg is now ranging 17-18.4 mpg All this, and the car feels stronger. I hope that all of you begin to get this kind of mileage if you weren't already. I know there was alot of talk about driving styles, but I think that there has been more to it...I wonder what R has in store for us, if it is for 04MT's. |
no vertigo. you got at least N adn probably p

or about 60 miles or so left for a rotary car :D |
and the best fuel mileage i have to date is 23.7mpg, a 250mi. drive from northern VA to southern VA :D
this was on my original 'M' flash though (june 04 build), maybe it'll get even better with new P flash I have now?? ;) |
My car's best, on an Old M flash, is 21mpg - Tacoma, WA to Salem and back...rarely breaking 75mph.

Happy now though. I drove back from Kentucky, and drove much faster during the day. More traffic allowed for higher speeds...hit 85 several times. I currently have 277.7 on the trip meter and no fuel light yet, but it's pretty close. Safe to say that I will probably fill up with 13 gallons, at about 285 or 290...300? Which will still be over 21mpg. |
I usually average about 245-260 miles per tank in city driving, and it doesn't really seem to matter how I drive the car. I have 25k miles on my car and I have had it since August 8, 2003. I also usally drive for about another 30-40 miles after the gas light comes on. When I fill up, it usually takes about 13.5-14.5 gallons to top it off. On highway trips I can average 315-340 miles per tank, with the cruise at 80mph or 70mph, it doesn't seem to make a big difference. My car has never been reflashed and only mod that would make a difference is my Greddy SP2 exhaust. I have ran other cars in my Car Club with mods, one with Canzoomer chip, intake, exhaust, and light weight flywheel, and my car was just a bit faster, and pulled a little bit more, but mostly pretty much an even match. So the power is there and gas mileage is okay.
But maybe after hearing this about the new P Flash, I just might have to get my first flash. So keep us updated about the power and thanks for the good informational post!!!!!!!!! |
