So, I've been kind of procrastinating on getting the service done; even though my clutch has been showing signs of the dreaded broken bracket issue. Well, yesterday I could barely get it into gear, so I bit the bullet, and I'm dropping my baby off tomorrow to get it replaced under the extended warranty.

The service advisor said there is no diagnostic charge and he'll have them swap the pedal even if it isn't beyond the wear indication just to be on the safe side. Still makes me nervous letting someone else work on my car, but I can't pass up the free replacement.

Wish me luck, I'll report back Saturday after I pick her up to let everyone know how it went...

Why would it make you nervous? If its a Mazda dealership doing the install, then you should be fine.

lol, i really do not get the thread...is he telling us his pedal is broken and hes getting a new one, or is it deeper than that.. and he is seeking help over his anxiety when others touch his car????

haha a little of both, I always do all my own work to cars so, someone else putting their hands on her is a bit traumatizing...

Oh, and they won't replace the pedal. It apparently has to actually be completely broken in order to qualify it for the warranty. I asked how far gone mine is and they placed it about 95%. Apparently you can actually see the weld mostly seperated from the metal but it isn't completely off yet...I can't believe they wouldn't replace it if it is that close to gone. I guess it isn't surprising though, no one is out to actually provide decent customer service or build bonds and have customers for life; all anyone cares about is whether they will make or lose money.

This dealership just lost my business, as did Mazda. They are basically saying the pedal has to break (possibly causing an accident), then if lucky enough to avoid said accident, be stranded on the road until a tow truck comes then wait to get the work done before you can have your car back.

So give it a kick to finish that last 5%.

If you're still under B to B warranty, Mazda will pay for the tow. If you're not, but belong to AAA or something, make sure you're within the free tow range.

I understand your anxiety about others working on your car. According to Mazda, this is caused by an assembly line worker improperly installing the pedal.

You can always weld the one you have, and keep away from Mazda altogether.

yeah, I'm thinking about buying the reinforcement kit one of the vendors on here makes. I have free towing with my insurance company which is nice, but I don't want to miss work or something because the pedal broke. I've left a few messages at mazda's corporate office and won't stop until this issue is better addressed.

If this is such an "isolated issue" as Mazda likes to call it, there wouldn't be as many reports on the internet of issues and there DEFINITELY wouldn't be an aftermarket company making kits to fix the problem...

Get a new one and have it welded!

I like how Mazda blame the assembly line workers for their own design fault. the bracket's design is garbage to begin with.

The issue is more a moral one as of now. Where I work customer service only comes after customer safety and this is a major safety issue Mazda needs to address and fix. They need to redesign the pedal and offer a free replacement to all the cars which could potentially have the problem.

They needed to train the assembly line workers to install the bracket properly, AND provided the tools to make it possible. Either that or design the bracket to withstand what the workers would do given no assembly procedure.

Pretty bizarre that 6speedwonder's dealer won't replace the bracket when it's cracked, but insists on waiting for it to break completely. It's possible for a real pinhead to interpret the warranty notice that way, but it makes no sense.

This will never happen, you must ask for a new one under warranty and spend around 100$ to have it properly welded.

Question for anyone who bought a new bracket themselves.

Did it come with assembly instructions? Like a torque spec and tightening order?

Go to another dealership, and then escalate it to the regional office. Broken is broken. Either the car functions as designed or it doesn't.

Just drive to a dealership and finish breaking it when you get there?

I only got 13 days left for my pedal to break. :(
It squeaks and moves side to side but I don't have any problems shifting still. I looked at the bracket but it looks fine. :/

I tool mine to the dealer and they replaced it with no problems. My pedal was only squeaking and had some minor play side to side.

That's crazy! My car was getting a new engine and i randomly called the dealer and said "oh i forgot to mention my pedal bracket has been squeaking" and he said "ohh ok i believe mazda had a SP (special program) to replace those so ill have them fix it" and that was it.

Lol are you kidding? over half the time my car was in the shop was because of MAZDAS OWN SHOP ERRORS... Hell my tranny is fucked because of them as well... Just because Mazda is doing the work doesnt mean everything is going to be fine...
