need urgent help: what kind of headlight is in my 8

I have a 2005 RX8 auto. without fog lights. Recently one of the low beam headlight is out. I went to the dealer and was told it was just the bulb not the ballast. and the dealership told me the specifics of the bulb is D2S HID for the driver side.

I found out an online DIY how to replace the headlight
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-...lights-124648/

The first thing I noticed is that there is no grey plastic backing thing (with warming label on) in my headlight, and there is no such a metal cap like thing says"lock" on it. the only thing I have is a big rubber ring that kinda covers the entire low beam unit. I have a pic showing you what it is.

Anyways, I also found instead of having two clips, I only have one behind my bulb.

Then I pull the headlight out and it is clearly have nothing in common with what I found in that DIY. I enclosed a few different images to show my headlight. but in general, the connecting wires are stick with the bulb and I cannot separate those wires at all. there are two wires, and one has an HNG label on it. the bulb also marked as HNG1001 on it.

can any one tell me what kind of bulbs is this? did the dealership just told me the wrong info about the bulb I should buy?

There is a VIN decoder in the tools section on the header at the top of the page. That will tell you if you have HID's to begin with.

HID headlights came with the sport package, which includes fog lights and (on an AT) 18 inch wheels instead of 16 inch. So it's pretty likely you have halogen headlights.

I know that's the case for '06, which the year I have and thus have obsessive knowledge. I'm reasonably sure the packages for '05 and '06 were the same.

Thanks,

I figured out the previous owner had a xenon HID conversion kit on the car that's why it's actually an HID bulb that I need. But seems what i needed is not just a bulb but the bulb comes with the HID conversion kit that has a wire attached

Just buy a whole new conversion kit - the old one failed, so don't just put another non-matching bulb in, get the whole setup - bulbs in your color of choice, new ballasts and relays.

ok so heres the issue. on the left you have a d2s bulb. on the right you have what is called a AMP bulb and connector. The one on the right is from low end hid conversion kits.

You have 4 options.

If the ballasts are still good, you can either

1. get replacement AMP bulbs (always in pairs like Stealth stated)
2. get a amp-to-d2s converter cable, and use the d2s bulbs of your choosing
3. remove the hid conversion kit and use the stock (non-hid) H7 bulbs.

Or

4. Get a quality HID kit that comes with an oem style ballast and d2s bulbs

I can tell you another thing, with the AMP bulbs that you have pictured, they will not properly seat in the non-HID housing without a spacer kit: http://www.carhidkits.com/myfiles/im...acer-mazda.jpg

Judging from the ground wire (the wire that is enclosed in that white tube that runs beside the bulb) it looks like it was not seated properly and actually burned through.
