Hi , please help. I am a newby to both forums and Canbus wiring. Bought a butchered Mazda RX8. Got everything working except speedo and tacho. Need wiring diagram urgently.

Had to fit third party injection system, original got stolen. Fitted f3ds motor on the original 6 speed box. Central locking and fuel gauge is working, had to put in RX& hydraulic power steering. Any chance of actual wire color coding to get gauges working?

do any of the stock gauges work or are you only using the Tach and speedo from stock? the stock gauges are controlled by a microcomputer within the stock cluster. I might be able to get the specs on the signals the microcomputer is looking for.
personally in your situation i'd go aftermarket anyway. There are some nice speed/tach combos out there. kevin. |
The speedo and tach won't work without the stock ECU and the trigger wheel from the RX-8 engine
As well..if the ECU and the Dash unit don't "match" the CAN Bus won't let them talk to each other What EMS are you using..might just want to use an aftermarket dash unit |
I am using a locally based ECU called Gotech (www.gotech.co.za) which I think is basicaly the same as Halltech system. I am driving the engine off a 60 minus 2 crank trigger, with wasted spark.
The system has its own outputs for most gauges except odometer. Would it be possible to use to drive original revcounter and heatgauge? I would like to use al the original gauges, but being "old school" these new systems seems rather daunting. |
Does anyone have any other wiring diagrams? On these diagrams they show the CANbus wires - bLue/White & Green/Black - but they do not specify which one is CAN High and which one is CAN Low. Does anyone happen to know this maybe? :)
(I am sorry to revive the old thread but hope these questions are relevant) |

Actually, OBD-II connector wiring diagram helps! http://www.normalexception.net/docum...0Connector.pdf
OBD-II connector pinout is known, so looks like bLue/White: CAN high Green/Black: CAN low |
Yeah, you're right with those colors!
Also, tapping the CANbus at the TPMS module (top center of the dash) is very convenient since any dev electronics can be hidden in the glove box or where the OEM nav screen goes, with a very short pair of wires. I have mine there along with some other stuff with an Ethernet plug at the glovebox end. If you didn't know, we have two buses. One runs at 500kHz, and the other runs at 125kHz. The low speed is used for non critical stuff, and the high speed is for engine management related stuff. Fortunately the high speed is the only one that really matters or has useful info. |
