Need Help

It seems like every time I go to the dealer to get something fixed or installed something else is damaged or breaks . GRR

Anyway, I get my spoiler installed and I'm driving home. Engine is totally warm, I have 19,850k on the odo.(after 7 months = gross) I roll up to a stop sign and naturally I stop. As I proceed through the intersection at about 40-60% throttle and at about 4k RPMS, I hear a muffled boom, not to loud, but loud enough.Simultaneaously the car jerks as if I hit the breaks hard, but just for a spilt second. I'm like WTF? I look in the rear view mirror before pulling over and I notice the remnents of a small cloud of smoke behind my car. What happened ? Did I backfire ??? Afterward there was a ticking noise for about 2 miles - only heard outside the car. I looked under the hood and the car right after it happenend and nothing seemed out of place. I could not pinpoint where the ticking was coming from. After driving a few miles everything is normal , no ticking and it feels smooth like it did before with no power loss.
Anyone know what could be up ? My service rep is asking a technician tomorrow what he thinks....I trust the board WAY more.

Thank in advance...

Oh yeah, I have a Borla catback, and K&N intake (each for about the last 7-10k miles)

Hmmmz , probably big ass back fire .. weird tho mine only backfires at high rpms (7000 + rpm) , car jerking .. thats not a good sign , did you release the throllet (dunno how to spell sorry) , when you heard the boom ? If so thats probably the jerk. But if everything is fine it was probably backfire ,

Maybe it was because they didn't warm up the car before and there was alot of fuel (to the point your car was almost flooded but didn't) and the fuel went through the cat and finally detonated when it went through your cat from the heat ...... that's ok , your car should be running fine and that explains the noise and smoke ... but I don't think thats good for your cat ...

Could be actually, the car didn't start right away at the dealership........I hope it was just a backfire

if it was dude, thats some big backfire (I never seen smoke come outta my car) , I would still take it in to the dealership tho , if it was extremely big , one of your cats probably burned out , but I am pretty sure that'll be covered under warranty.

I don't think I would tolerate a backfire. If yours backfires at 7K consistently, you should seriously think about removing some mods if you have any. If not, you should talk to service guys. Unless you mean the popping sound that rotaries make, at which point, it is normal.

As far as CGRX, not comment.

Which level of ECU flash do you have? The L flash has caused some part-throttle issues for people in the past.

I'm pretty sure everyone even people with stock exhaust backfire, my old Rx-8 (titanium grey) backfired too, its natural for rotaries, but if theres too much gas (from flooding) and it starts , that can definitely do some damage to the cat.

I have never felt any car do what it did. It seemed like a huge backfire that pushed back into the engine from the exhaust causing the car to slow down really quickly for a second. It wasn't that loud at all - very muffled and deep.
It was weird.

I have M flash - had it for about 9k miles or so

I get the Borla pop all the time. This thing was a definite internal explosion of some kind

hmmz , sounds like a problem , I'd bring it in definitely, sounds like big backfire or maybe something inside broke , i have no idea, I an't that good with rotary engines. (or cars)
