Need Advanced Keyless Entry and Start System Parts

I have a 2007 RX8 with the Advanced Keyless Entry and Start System. The plastic ring that the start knob attaches to is broken and I am trying to find a replacement part. The dealership already screwed me over by selling me the knob which they had to special order and was none refundable. For $40 I expected the ring to come with it but I assumed wrong. The dealership looked up the part and found that I have to order an entire ignition to get this part at a cost of $575. All I need is a $5 piece of plastic but they can't sell that to me. Does anyone know where I could get one of these? I have thought about looking at junk yards but I can't find any in Orlando that are saying they even had RX parts. I've included a picture from the owner's manual for anyone that's never seen the AKES.

Hell, I've pulled mine off accidently so many times I can't count.

I'm thinking you could get some kind of short dummy key , or is there some electrical connection prongs inside that are necessary?

Here is a screenshot of the parts. Can you ID what you need in this pic? Is it 66-142?

Thanks but it's not any of those. It's part of the ignition cylinder but I was told the same thing as the guy who started this thread- that the dealer will only sell the whole thing which is like $500 dollars and all I need is the little plastic cover. Any other suggestions?? I thought about trying to glue it back on

What is the YEAR of your 8...

I gather you are after the Round Black Plastic OUTER Ring which has Lock, On, Start on it??..
It is the only part of the Ignition Switch which you see apart from the centre silver slot where you put your key in (If you use a key).

IF you use an actual KEY to start your car, then this Black RING is part of the Immobiliser Antenna and sold separately....
GJ6A-66-938A Antenna Ring $123.02

In the RX-8 you don't have to buy the complete Ignition Switch, the GJ6A part is available separately.

IF you have the AKE or Flat Key, my original post is correct.

If you require more information, post a picture of what you want.

ASH8 09-02-2011 10:30 PM

YOU can Purchase the parts shown above Separately...

Put the part number in here...

my car is an 2007 w/the AKE. I don't need the ring that goes around the ignition. Here is a pic of what it looks like WITH OUT the plastic cover. (the piece that broke) It SHOULD look like the picture at the beginning of this post. So the plastic piece that is broken goes between the knob and the metal part of the ignition. It has male parts that go into the slots on the ignition side (see pic) and it has female parts on the other side that lock the knob into place.

I hope I was able to explain myself. I do not have the plastic piece that is broken, i will get it back on tuesday. I can post more pics then if u think that will help.

Thanks for your help

This should be a RECALL!!???????????????????????
THIS IS STUPID!!!!!!!!!!! I too had my knob break... why would they put such crappy cheap PLASTIC like this to start the damn car???
I searched for months... Emailed several mazda parts places.. all told me it was this part number...NF51-66-141A02
So I SPEND$42.00 from Onlinemazdaparts.com and it is not the right part!
It looks like the knob.. but the insides are missing!!! They send a hollow knob!!! Nothing for it to lock on to.. as you can see it needs to fit into each other...
Here is the new hollow knob they sent.... here is my car switch.... here is my old knob broken... so where are the guts????? What part NUMBER IS THAT???
: (

On my old knob.. I just learned that the inside snaps in.. I can take it out and it looks just like to new knob.. hollow..

I suggest you email the selling parts dealer with the pics of your switch, and the one send and tell them it appears incomplete, he will put an inquiry into MNAO and find out what is wrong.

My 2007 rx8 sucks... 40,000 miles and key breaks, both sun visors broke, the plastic skid plate came off 15,000 miles ago,, the key less keys don't open trunk or doors... even with new batteries.. it idol's ruff... ? the coolant light keeps coming on.. there is plenty in there.. the cap cracked 10,000 miles ago.. I mean really? I have had nissans, toyotas etc with 100,000 miles and no problems.. I dont feel there is any quality on my madza

That's why I like traditional Keys or just completely Push start better.

62K miles, same key and everything, works 100%.

I think I know which part you broke, but it seems that it comes with a new Cylinder only ...

either u have shit luck, it happens.

or

you have shitty hands and u over twist it every time, it's plastic u know, a lot of people have high miles 07 and they don't have any problems.

saralskeen 04-02-2012 09:55 AM

The plastic thing was already broken when I bought the car at 17,000 miles from the dealer.. But thanks.

What is broken is the slot on the inside ans you can see I tried to repair it,,, where the grey stuff is. I do not understand why i get a new part and it is missing the inside? You can clearly tell that the old one has a different look.

locura79 05-27-2012 07:12 PM

I found this thread while I was searching for this same exact part (although it goes on my Speed6). The dealer told me I needed part D461-66-141A-02, but it sounds like you're saying that's just the outer knob part. Did you figure out what to do? Having a keyless system is pointless if you have to use the key to start the car.

I have posted many posts and very annoyed! I took lots of pictures and asked a lot of people what part to order.. I ordered what I was told and it was a hollow knob that serves no purpose. And get this they made be pay a 35% restocking fee.Onlinemazdaparts.com All we need is the inner plastic ring. And I am told that you can't buy that ring. So I am down to one stupid hard key because the design is so poor one fell out of the card, so I used pliers to turn it on.

Thank you ASH8! Apparently my Mazda parts department has not received that bulletin.

You would think that would be the case, but they're the ones who told me I needed part D461-66-141A-02. I'm just glad I looked at this thread before I bought the hollow knob cover.

Back in 07

Bought my 06 Shinka with smartkey back in September of 07

It was missing the key knob, still is

I do not use/require anything to turn the car on, ie start
All i do is manually turn the ignition. Do not use any key

so if you know anywhere I can find the part I need, let me know

Guess it is the hollow plastic key knob?
It will not just fall off like poster said?

So are you saying the hollow knob cover is not the right part
all I am missing is the hollow knob cover
but car starts fine without it so in no hurry to buy the hbc

ASH8 06-19-2013 05:21 PM

This the the Ignition TURN Knob part which is now available as a separate OEM spare part
for AKE systems on RX-8 Series 1.

WOW am I glad I found this thread. Was just putting together an order from mazdamotorsports for my replacement fuel pump :banghead: and figured "hey, I'll replace that stupid broken plastic knob while I'm at it." I was *this* close to ordering the wrong part (the hollow knob as described by others above)!

Thanks RX8Club! :D

Does anyone know the part number for the trunk request button above the license plate used with the advanced keyless entry system, to open the trunk on a 2009 RX-8 GT?
