Is this Necessary. 4speed to 6speed engine

Ok guys, this is really frustrating me. I took my 04 4 speed 8 into the shop for the 3rd time for the same issue a few days ago. The dealership has said all along that a carbon build up in the valve is the issue. My engine light was coming on constantly. After taking it in for a 3rd time for the same issue, the dealership siad after consulting with mazda they have dicided to replace the engine. There also has been some powerloss in 1st to 2nd gear since the last recall flash. So heres where the questions start. First, they siad that they would be putting the more powerful new 6 speed engine (212 hp) in my 4 speed car. Is this correct. Can they put a 6port on a 4 port. Or do I not know what I'm talking about and I'm making out pretty well in this deal. Second, they are pushing me hard into getting some maintenance done before they replace the engine. I have 38k miles now and they want me to Flush the Transmission and Clean the Injection System that is included with the 30k maintenance. Total service $620 plus tax. Not including the A/C cleaning and Cabin filter change the I declined that would have been about another $200. Are these guys nuts or is this necessary. I am going to do the cabin filter thing myself but a $620 service seems steep.:icon_no2:

If they replace the engine, they replace the injectors for starters. The higher power engine sounds nice, as long as it mates ok to the transmission (4-spd) that you have should be OK only faster. 38K sounds like not much to have the xmission fluid changed, best check the service manual for the right interval.

Sort of sounds like they figure they might as well make money from you as well as Mazda warranty as long as they have you in their shop.

Don't agree to pay for anything that might be warranty related. As Spin9k above noted, the injectors "should" be replaced with the engine swap.

As for other service that is not normally covered under warranty, that's your call whether you want them to perform it or not. Don't be pressured into anything, and you can always go back at a later date to have these performed.

Congrats on getting a newer faster engine though:)

Dont take their BS service, they're trying to rip you off, This dealer is not being honest with you.

I think is possible to put 6 into 4 port, its just that the last 2 Aux will never be opened. I've never seen it tho. AC needs cleaning? what kind of cleaning, and the cabin filter cost like 30 something u can replace it urself in 10 minutes. you should've changed ur tranny fluid long time ago tho. do it urself and save the money for beers. takes u 30 minutes the most. oh change the rear diff fluid too(urself)

devildog1679 05-21-2007 01:17 PM

The manual says to replace differential and tranny fluid and the 30K service. Along with cabin filter. As nycgps said, you can do it your self for way less than $620, there just trying to get some cash from you.

1 will not change from 4 port to six port. all they change is the short block... you all the intake and everything are reused...

2 the injectors are reused. not new...

3 get them to do what the 30k service says in the owners manual. that is all that need to be done.

at 30 k you need to change trans fluid, diff fluid, brake fluid. plugs will be replaced with new motor..

get a can of b&g 44k fuel cleaner. put in tank after you get the new motor...

please read the owners manual!!!!!

i just saved you at least 500 bucks.

swoope, after another extensive chat to Mazda thru there customer relation center they assured me that thru the mazda order desk the 6 port higher hp engine is the one that is ordered and is set to be put in my car. As far as the rest of the service goes, I have ordered the cabin filter and will be putting it in myself. The other stuff will most likely be done thru the dealership as much as I may regret it.

sure,

and where are you in fla?

Well, when you get it done, snap some pics of what the setup looks like. If they are putting a 6 port engine in and reusing the 4 port IM, I'm not sure how they would work that. It could be interesting. If you run the 6 port with 2 ports closed/blocked, you'll basically get 4 port power, but you would have the potential to swap the IM and do some modding to support running all 6 ports.

As for the maintenance stuff, it might be nice to have Mazda Dealer service in theory, flushing the tranny (and not just popping a plug and refilling what is in the case) and the diff should be maybe $100. It's on par in difficulty with changing your oil. A/C service probably entails changing the cabin filter and seeing if the A/C gets cold. You could probably get all the things they list out to be done for half price at a decent mechanic and none of them are really rotary specific.

I am also very curious as to what they are going to do. But I will give then the benifit of the doubt. I live about a hour from Tampa in Port Richey. I use to go to meets but I havent in awhile.

Thats intresting my 8 is in the shop right now getting a new engine put in to they wont tell me wut exactly was worng but they r paying for it so w/e but i also have the 4 port i wonder if they are putting the 6 in mine to? ill have to remember to ask next time i talk to him.

moyica 06-03-2007 10:09 PM

Ok now I have to vent some.....
Do these Mazda service centers know what the hell is going on.
1st as I and some of you thought as well, my engine was replaced with a 4 port. The servcie manager says he was misinformed and misspoke. So I paid for the standard 30k maintenance and a Trans flush and went on my way.
2nd About 10 mins after I left the engine light started flashing as well as the coolant light.
3rd The next morning I checked the coolant and the was none showing in the holder.
4th I had ordered a cabin filter from mazdasport to change the Dam Cabin filter they kept on bugging me to change and I found that there was only 1 in there out of 2. Somebody forgot to put the other in I guess.
5th After putting an easy 200 miles on it my engine for the breakin period the engine light is staying on.

I can't begin to explain how agrivated I am. I guess I will be back there Mon. moring.

nycgps 06-03-2007 10:37 PM

the cabin filter we have are the same one for most recent Mazda cars. like MPV.

what do you mean by 1 only? it suppose to come in a white box, plastic bag wrap, 2 pieces inside.

Your engine light came back on ? and coolant wasnt filled ? wtf ?

obviously ur dealership suck ass. Bring it back and start bitching. how hard is it to fill the coolant up to Max ? jeeze.

u better check ur oil level too.

I'm not sure exactly what advice you are refuring to. I had done the 30k maintenace that needed to be done and a trans flush. The motor 4 port or 6 was just speculation.

Mazda south sorry.

What do you mean the other cabin filter just showed up.
I purchased a new cabin filter as I stated and went to replace them and found only one in there.
I truly appeciate all the information I have been given to me on this forum but who am I to say whos right or wrong when I'm not given all the facts correctly from both sources in my case.
