There is a thread about synthetic oils somewhere on this forum. Try a search. You might find the answer you are looking for :).

Yep lots of info on the boards in many threads about oil.

If you look, what you'll find is:

1. a memo from Mazda Parts of Australia stating that synthetic is ok in the Renesis but mineral oil is preferred
2. many RX7 drivers that claim to have sucessfully used synthetic for years ( I said "claim" but I have no reason to doubt)
3. debates about the benefits of synthetic over mineral oil and vice versa
4. no definitive statements from Mazda USA or a Mazda authorized rep

I know there are alot of threads but have not found one where peoples dealers use synthetic.

There are statements from Mazda USA that have been posted on this forum. I even posted a reply from Mazda USA about the oil issues.

This is the first post I have seen on here about the dealer changing the oil with synthetic on their own. Thanks for posting this. Ignore the ppl that say search. Apparently they didn't read what you said very carefully. ;)

count yourself as lucky... My dealer uses sludge.

I do my own oil changes and use Royal Purple Racing 21

I saw your post, and others that claimed different info from Mazda, As someone in the other thread said the answer from Mazda varies depending on who you contact at Mazda. It would be nice if Mazda had a consistent definitive answer regarding the synthetic issue. Since an authorized dealer is using synthetic, maybe Mazda has had a change of heart.

The fact that the dealer is using synthetic is truly something new on the board as far as I can tell. My car goes in tomorrow, I'll ask my local dealer about the oil as well.

Syn.....

You are lucky to get such a good oil at the dealer...does he charge 'an arm and a leg' for it?
Most just use drummed bulk 10W30, even when the manual says different.
QS full synthetic 5W20 is an excellent oil, the 'tribologists' on the oil forum like it a lot (the link, for those of you with even LESS of a life than me - Oil Forum )
It should be the start of a long relationship with thatdealer.....

My Canadian Mazda Dealer uses Petro-Canada 5W20 synthetic oil and says that it is waht Mazda Canada recommends and sells in their branded bottles.

I was in the dealer's shop this morning for a three month check up and oil change and I asked the service manager about synthetic oil and his response was..........

Sythnetic was no problem but wasn't worth the added cost. He was willing to use synthetic at my request. He suggested changing to synthetic would be worth it once the car gets into much higher milage, though he wasn't more specific.

Just an FYI to add to the mix.
