OK, So because the housing and rotor were toast, I picked up a JDM engine and threw it in. It had compression on all faces, but I don't have a mazda tester. I figured best case, I put it in and it runs, worst case, it doesn't and I use it for parts to rebuild.
Engine went in today and wont fire. I ended up burning up the starter motor trying to deflood it. It got really hot, and then just stopped. I didn't have new plugs in and I hadn't added oil to the rotors yet. I'm going to grab another starter, change the plugs and throw some oil in. meanwhile the lower plugs are out so it should be airing out quite nicely, the oil add should boost the compression enough to get the job done. Otherwise, its a pull back out and go full rebuild time. Hopefully both housings are in good shape and I end up with a spare.
I did forget to put the vacuum line to OMP nozzles, so word to the wise, get that one on the rail before putting the upper intake on.
